Watch With Amanda: What’s New In 2013? Your Midseason TV Preview

Happy New Year! If your resolution was to watch more TV, then I am here to help. This season there is something for everyone who is looking to fill the void in their TV schedules. Kevin Bacon stars as an FBI profiler tracking down a serial killer. Felicity (Keri Russell) returns as an undercover KGB spy in 1980’s America. Or maybe Anthony Edwards long awaited return to the small screen will spark your interest?  I’ve singled out 10 of the most anticipated mid season shows debuting in 2013 complete with trailers and premiere dates. What will you be watching?

DECEPTION


WHEN: Monday January 7th @ 10pm on NBC
WHO: Meagan Good (Californication), Victor Garber (Alias), Wes Brown (Private Practice), Tate Donovan (Damages)
WHAT: When Vivian Bowers, a famous socialite, is found dead from what appears to be an overdose, her best friend, Detective Joanna Locasto (Good), is re-embraced by the wealthy Bowers family and in time she begins to uncover the truth of what really happened with her friend’s death.

THE CARRIE DIARIES


WHEN: Monday January 14th @ 8pm on CW
WHO: AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer), Matt Letscher (Eli Stone), Austin Butler (Switched at Birth), Katie Findlay (The Killing)
WHAT: It is a prequel to the HBO television series Sex and the City and based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell. The show focuses on Carrie Bradshaw (Robb) during her senior year of high school during the early 1980s and part of her life in New York working as a writer.

CONTINUUM


WHEN: Monday January 14th @ 8pm on SYFY
WHO: Rachel Nichols (Alias), Victor Webster (Castle), Erik Knudsen (Jericho)
WHAT: When a group of fanatical terrorists escape their planned execution in 2077 by traveling back in time to 2012, they inadvertently take City Protective Services officer Kiera Cameron (Nichols) with them. Trapped in a more “primitive” past, Kiera infiltrates the local police department to try to track down the terrorists before they change the course of history.

THE FOLLOWING


WHEN: Monday January 21st @ 9pm on FOX
WHO: Kevin Bacon (every movie ever), James Purefoy (Rome), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Natalie Zea (Justified), Annie Parisse (Law & Order), Maggie Grace (Lost)
WHAT: The series follows an elite FBI agent (Bacon) taken out of retirement who finds himself in the middle of a network of serial killers, when a diabolical serial killer (Purefoy) uses special technology to create it.

THE AMERICANS


WHEN: Wednesday January 30th @ 10pm on FX
WHO: Keri Russell (Felicity), Matthew Rhys (Brothers & Sisters), Noah Emmerich (White Collar)
WHAT: The Americans is a period drama about the marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC. The arranged marriage of Soviet spies Phillip (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell), who have two children who know nothing about their parents true identity, is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War under President Ronald Reagan, and Phillip’s growing sense of affinity for the American way of life.

DO NO HARM


WHEN: Thursday January 31st @ 10pm on NBC
WHO: Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me), Alana de la Garza (Law & Order), Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show), Mousa Kraish (Parenthood)
WHAT: Dr. Jason Cole (Pasquale) is a successful neurosurgeon with a secret. At the same time every night, something inside of him alters him in almost unrecognizable ways, leading to a dangerous alternate personality named Ian Price. The show is a modern take on the classic Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde story.

MONDAY MORNINGS


WHEN: Monday February 4th @ 10pm on TNT
WHO: Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Jennifer Finnigan (Close to Home), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Alfred Molina (Frida)
WHAT: Based on a novel of the same name by neurosurgeon/CNN correspondent Sanjay Gupta, the series from David E. Kelley follows the professional and personal lives of five doctors at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The drama dwells on doctors’ lapses in judgement as much as their crowd-pleasing successes.

ZERO HOUR


WHEN: Thursday February 14th @ 8pm on ABC
WHO: Anthony Edwards (ER), Michael Nyqvist (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Scott Michael Foster (Greek), Carmen Ejogo (Kidnapped), Jacinda Barrett (Suits)
WHAT: A thriller about a magazine editor Hank Galliston (Edwards) who has spent his career following clues, debunking myths and cracking conspiracies, becomes involved in one the most compelling conspiracies in human history when his wife (Barrett) is kidnapped.

CULT


WHEN: Tuesday February 19 @ 9pm on CW
WHO: Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries), Jessica Lucas (Melrose Place), Alona Tal (Supernatural), Robert Knepper (Prison Break)
WHAT: The series follows Jeff (Davis), a journalist blogger, and Skye (Lucas), a production assistant on a popular television crime series called Cult, as they investigate the fans of the series, who could be re-creating the crimes committed on the series

BATES MOTEL


WHEN: March 2013 (no official date set yet) on A&E
WHO: Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air), Freddie Highmore (Spiderwick Chronicles), Nestor Carbonell (Lost)
WHAT: Bates Motel, serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, “Psycho,” and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ (Highmore) psyche unravels through his teenage years.
