Figure Friday: Street Fighters and Star Fighters, Oh My!

I’m writing this week’s column from a summoning circle. That’s right. I’ve turned to the dark arts in an effort to get my Figuarts Gamerverse Spider-Man to hit my Pile of Loot. If you’re unfamiliar with Big Bad Toy Store’s famous shipping option, allow me to elaborate.

The Pile of Loot allows you to consolidate shipping by letting you hold items for up to 90 days. Once an item has been in your Pile of Loot for 90 days, it ships automatically. However, any open preorders that arrive during that time, and most purchases, can be shipped along with that item for a flat $6 fee. It’s extremely customer-friendly and one of the main reasons I frequent Big Bad Toy Store.

Despite the reasonably priced $6 shipping cost, there’s still a bit of anxiety at the thought of hitting SHIP only to have another preorder arrive within a few days. So, here I sit alone in my summoning circle, trying to manifest a miracle.

Or to put it less dramatically: save six bucks.

Either way, I have 10 days remaining before I have to hit SHIP. Figure Gods, Be Kind and Hear my Prayers!

Here are the preorders that have caught my eye recently.

Action figure of a muscular character with feathered headband, wearing blue attire and fringed pants, alongside interchangeable parts including two hands, an alternate head, and a small eagle.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers T. Hawk by Jada Toys

We’re soooooo close to rounding out the Super Street Fighters! Only Zangief remains now that T. Hawk is up for preorder.

T. Hawk was the character that I was most excited to use when the New Challengers debuted in Super Street Fighter II. A Native American from Mexico that was bigger than Sagat? Yes, please. Unfortunately, I couldn’t play him for shit, and he quickly became an afterthought. In figure form, he doesn’t require controls, increasing his coolness exponentially.

I can’t wait to make my own sexy T. Hawk figure photography. That is one tall drink of water that knows how to wear a Canadian tuxedo. T. Hawk is scheduled to ship in Q3 of this year. Stay tuned for my Patreon exclusive photo series, T. Hawk Tuah, later this year.

A packaged toy set featuring the Razor Crest and X-Wing from Star Wars, including two action figures, on a display card.

Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron The Razor Crest and X-Wing & N-1 Starfighter vs Pirate Snub Fighter

My favourite toy line to buy on discount is Jazwares Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron. The vehicles are fantastic and worth retail in most cases… but if you’re patient, you can find many of them on clearance.

Two ships that I was too late to grab at retail were the Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter and Razor Crest. With the upcoming release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, I’m getting another chance at the Razor Crest, but it also looks like we’re getting a rerelease of the N-1 as well!

This Disney Store Exclusive Razor Crest and X-Wing 2-pack allows me to get my Razor Crest and the tiniest Sigourney Weaver figure ever made. How cute is she?!!?!

Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron battle pack featuring The Mandalorian's N-1 Starfighter and Pirate Snub Fighter, with accompanying characters.

I really want that N-1, but I don’t know if I need that Snub Fighter. It’s a peg warmer in my area, but I could add a second one if I find one or three on clearance. Do you see? This is how it starts. I’ll probably have a fleet of Snub Fighters hanging from my ceiling by my next Figure Friday column.
