Last week I took my two kids, ages 7 and 9 to see Journey 2: Mysterious Island. I’d heard good things about the film and I think Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is just about perfect at picking roles that play to his strengths. Making the experience even better was the fact that Journey 2 is playing in 3D, and unlike the recent release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, it was conceptualized and filmed for 3D…and you can tell.
The action scenes are amazing. From flying with bees to fighting off giant lizards, the 3D effects pull you right in to the movie. The performances are also pretty good in Journey 2, but make no mistake, this film is all about the 3D special effects and Vanessa Hudgens is no Kerry Green (Andy in The Goonies).
But don’t take my word for it, here’s what Madeleine, my 9-year-old had to say:
The best part about Journey 2 was the giant lizard because it was just the most dramatic scene in the movie! I was on the edge of my seat.
There were also many funny parts and the actors were fantastic! I laughed out loud at least 10 times. The special effects were also really cool. When Hank and Shawn were trapped in the submarine, it looked real! It looked liked they had almost drown too!
This movie is great for families because of the 3D and the special effects. The water effect was by far the best! It looked like we were going to get wet. This movie had it all. Action, comedy, adventure and mystery. My brother and I loved it and you will to.
