Introducing Josh Boone’s Substack: Reese Witherspoon in the ’90s: Pt. 1

In the fall of 2019, I made my way to Vancouver, British Columbia, to visit the set of The Stand, the CBS All Access miniseries spearheaded by writer/director Josh Boone (The New Mutants, Regretting You, The Fault in Our Stars, Stuck in Love). A fellow constant reader, Josh had read an advance of my 2018 book, This Dark Chest of Wonders: 40 Years of Stephen King’s The Stand, and invited me to chronicle the making of the new mini-series. My book, The Art and Making of The Stand, was published by Titan Books in 2021. It simply wouldn’t exist without Josh’s faith in my writing.

Along the way, we became friends, even briefly co-hosting a podcast together (it was pretty good, but it was also a ton of effort for two guys with a lot going on). One of Josh’s greatest skills is with the written word, which I’ve seen as we’ve both shared and discussed our various works in progress. Last Halloween, Josh dropped by BBP! to take part in our 31 Days of Horror, where he discussed his love of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles.

A thoughtful writer, Josh has now started a Substack where he’ll talk about film; the stuff he loved growing up, script pages, and much more. His first entry focuses on the early career of Reese Witherspoon, which you can see below:

My friend Josh is a smart guy; he left social media a long, long time ago. We’re happy to give him a presence at Biff Bam Pop!; whenever he does a new entry, we’ll post a link to it here so readers can find it. It’s the perfect fit for our site.
