In The Game: ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ is a Must-Play for Fans of Either Franchise

There have been many LEGO video games over the years, spanning some of the biggest franchises in pop culture. From Marvel and DC to Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings, all of them have shared similar gameplay and senses of humour. It’s that consistency that’s made the games enduring; the ability to pick up and play either solo or with a friend, half a laugh, and pretty much smash anything in sight.

The release of LEGO video games has slowed down a bit in recent years, though, and that’s actually not a bad thing. When a new game arrives on store shelves (physical or digital), the hype is higher, and expectations are grander. That was certainly the case when LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was announced. This was to be a title that would span the entire history of Batman, including the multiple films he’s appeared in over the years.

To say this is one of the best LEGO video games I’ve played would be an understatement. While it offers so much of what makes these games so fun to play, including all the aspects I mentioned above, what it has in a way that none of the others quite managed is an incredibly compelling story. That’s not to say the other games haven’t done a decent job; believe me, they have. But the way that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has managed to weave countless characters and stories from the entire pantheon of Batman history into one game, and have it all work, is a fantastic accomplishment.

There are tons of unlockables within the game, letting you dress up the multitude of characters you can play as in whatever outfit you feel appropriate. Love the Michael Keaton-era of Batman? It’s in there. Same with Robert Pattinson, Ben Affleck, and Christian Bale’s Batmen. But again, it’s the weaving of so many different stories and characters that makes this game worth the price of admission.

I’ve been playing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on the PS5, and the game looks absolutely amazing. I know it’s not pushing the graphics to the max like other games, but Gotham City just pops off the screen in a gorgeous way.

Overall, if you’re craving a new LEGO game, this is it. If you’re craving a new Batman game, this is it. If you’re craving a game that’s just hella fun with an excellent story, well, look no further than LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. You absolutely won’t be disappointed.
