Trailer Time: Get Ready to Enter Kane Pixels’ ‘Backrooms’

I found a place…

Horror isn’t really the place you go to find ‘feel good’ stories. They exist, mostly off-screen like this one, but they’re rare. It’s tough to describe the phenomenon of Backrooms creator Kane “Pixels” Parsons in any other way, though. Getting the call from A24 to make your series of ultra-spooky, ultra-viral YouTube videos that you made yourself in Blender into a feature film, well, that’s impressive enough. But to get that call when you’re only nineteen? That’s something special.

If you’re like me and discovered The Backrooms on YouTube about four years ago, following both the slow drip of short films that unravel the lore behind those yellow walls and drab carpet and the story behind it being picked up for the big screen, you’ve been waiting for this moment. Sure, there have been teasers and little drips of information, but this is our first full-fledged look at Parsons’ and A24s vision for The Backrooms.

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell, we can definitely see from this new trailer that we’ll be following the original lore of the titular ‘Rooms from Clark’s (Ejiofor) perspective, while his therapist attempts to bring him back to reality. I love that with Parsons behind the camera, the iconic aesthetic and grainy found-footage feel of the original videos seems to be intact here, and is proof positive that A24 has made the right call in signing Parsons up for, hopefully, years to come.

Check out the brand new trailer here, ahead of Backrooms‘ release on May 29, 2026!

Kane Parsons’ ‘Backrooms’ comes to theatres on May 29, 2026 from A24, Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment.
