Toronto’s stuck in that late-winter limbo, but we’ve got great new music to get your mind off this crappy weather. This week’s instalment of What’s Going On is packed with big hooks, raw emotions and a new project from U2. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.
Sons of Town Hall – Transatlantic storytellers Sons of Town Hall just dropped “Sirens,” the haunting, cinematic new single from upcoming album Of Ghosts and Gods (out March 6, on vinyl too!). With its traditional maritime myth meets American frontier feel, the track’s inventive use of layered harmonies and stripped back folk instrumentation pulls listeners in just like a siren’s call.

Nonso Amadi – Canadian Afro-R&B star Nonso Amadi is back with “Greedy,” a warm, moody new track that blends nostalgic Toronto-R&B with the slick Afrobeats sound. Entirely self-produced, mixed, and mastered, Amadi’s single pulses with booming bass and emotional clarity. It’s equally polished and devastating, proving Amadi’s vision is as singular as ever.

U2 – U2 have dropped their first new original music in years in the form of their new EP, Days of Ash. The new collection of songs opens with “American Obituary,” a sombre dirge that’s dedicated to Renee Good, a Minnesota mother killed by a federal agent during recent immigration enforcement. The six-track EP channels the band’s activist roots, wrapping heavy political themes in earnest rock instrumentation. It’s not a good time or an easy listen, but it’s a reminder that U2 still knows how to meet the moment with purpose and heart.

NAV – These two don’t miss! NAV and Young Thug have teamed up again on “Trimski,” their first collab in over five years, and the chemistry still hits. Built on slick Atlanta vibes and big Toronto man energy, the track feels like a full-circle moment: polished, confident, and effortlessly trim. It’s a reminder that both artists are older, wiser and still as swaggy as ever.

New Constellations – We’ve written about Portland duo New Constellations on here before. The pair return with “Dandelion,” a bubbly dose of synth-pop that captures love in that fragile space between holding on and letting go. It serves as another beautiful preview of Harlee Case and Josh Smith’s forthcoming album It Comes In Waves, due out on May 15 via Nettwerk.
