Kickstart This! Humanoids Announces ‘Cosmochasm: From Chile to the Edge of Imagination’ Featuring Alejandro Jodorowsky and Gabriel Rodríguez

A few years ago, I watched the brilliant film Jodorowsky’s Dune, which tells the story of filmmaker and spiritual guru Alejandro Jodorowsky’s attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune for the cinema. This was long before David Lynch’s 1984 version or Denis Villeneuve’s films of this decade. Jodorowsky’s Dune has quickly become my favourite documentary, and the man himself, a calming influence in my life.

While his ambitious film didn’t see the light of day, Jodo took many of the concepts he had for Dune and put them into comic books, most notably The Incal, which he created with his Dune colleague, the legendary artist Mobius. Those works came out through Humanoids, which has long been the home of Jodorowsky’s comics. Today marks the dual launch of a new Kickstarter campaign, featuring new works from Jodrowsky and Gabriel Rodríguez, the latter best known for his work on IDW’s Locke & Key.

LOS ANGELES – December 10, 2025 – After the resounding success of METAL HURLANT—the official English-language rebirth of the seminal 1975 anthology—and Caza’s magnum opus ARKADI AND THE LOST TITAN, international and independent publishing house HUMANOIDS seeks to join the forces of the classic Humanoids and Metal Hurlant canons and the contemporary world of top-tier graphic novels.

Launching today on Kickstarter, COSMOCHASM: FROM CHILE TO THE EDGE OF IMAGINATION is a dual launch bringing together two creators of different generations, both with Chilean roots that have influenced their individual creative visions: Alejandro Jodorowsky and Gabriel Rodríguez (Locke & Key). Together, the two artists celebrate the launches of their respective, all-new, original graphic novels—embodying, on the one hand, the space operatic, esoteric science-fiction, and on the other, the humanity-infused genre storytelling, both of which Humanoids is known for.

A comic book opened to two pages, featuring vivid illustrations depicting a dramatic scene in an icy landscape with characters in action, including a woman holding a weapon and figures in a chaotic environment.

Decades after penning the beloved, highest-selling science-fiction graphic novel of all time, The Incal, and with countless other sequential artworks under his belt, the prolific cult filmmaker and renaissance man Jodorowsky returns to the comics medium with a bloodlusting, vengeful space pirate opera—brought to life by the acclaimed Pete Woods (The Metabaron, The Incal: Kill Wolfhead): COSMOPIRATES.

In tandem, the co-creator of the bestselling and tv-adapted Locke & Key, Gabriel Rodríguez, joins writer Hirodjee in weaving a horrific tale of gothic proportions—a period piece exploring matters of life, death, and the in-between: THE CHASM OF RESURRECTION.

In addition to exclusive, deluxe hardcover and high-end, high-concept slipcase editions of each title, backers of the campaign will have access to a one-time, one-shot comics collaboration between Jodorowsky and Rodríguez (a surprise, sequential art adaptation of a surrealist, autobiographical short story written by the former). Backers will also have the opportunity to snag their specialty, signed bookplates—limited to 199.

Three graphic novels featuring 'Angel Claws' and 'The Eyes of the Cat' by Jodorowsky and Moebius, with a placeholder labeled 'COMING SOON' in the center.

Here’s what Alejandro Jodorowsky, himself, has to say about this special collaboration: “This unexpected short opus rises from the echoes of my childhood in Tocopilla, Chile, where I first opened my eyes ninety-six years ago. It will come alive in images through the hand of the great Chilean artist, Gabriel Rodríguez.”

“I’ve always been driven by the desire to explore new paths and experiences—it has guided me throughout these past decades. Beyond what I loved in Locke & Key, I was eager to see Gabriel Rodríguez express himself in the bande dessinée format. With Chasm, he amazed me,” states Humanoids Publisher Fabrice Giger. “In a similar spirit, pairing the great Alejandro Jodorowsky with American artist Pete Woods has produced a book visually distinct from what Alejandro was accustomed to, particularly through Pete’s nuanced color palette.”

Don’t miss out on exclusive offers, discounts, and soon-to-be rare collector’s items. Back the campaign today.
