To say that the latest entry into the Scream franchise has been appropriately chaotic is an understatement. The last couple of films gave Ghostface and his pals a fresh coat of paint with new directors in the Radio Silence folks ( Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella) and a pair of franchise stars in Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera that were seemingly set to carry Scream into the future. But with all of the above departing Scream 7 for various reasons – including the abrupt firing of Barrera due to social media posts condemning the Israeli genocide and a promised return to the film series from Neve Campbell derailed due to pay issues – Scream 7 sees the franchise heading back to familiar roots.
Now in the director’s chair after having written the scripts for Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, Kevin Williamson returns to the Screamverse to helm Scream 7. He brings with him Scream regulars Neve Campbell’s (whose pay issues are apparently resolved) Sidney Prescott, David Arquette’s Dewey, Jasmin Savoy Brown’s Mindy, Mason Gooding’s Chad, Scott Foley’s Roman, Courteney Cox’s Gail Weathers, as well as Matthew Lillard’s Stu for a chillingly familiar feel. Making their debuts in the franchise are Anna Camp, Ethan Embry (who, fun fact, auditioned unsuccessfully for the original Scream), McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, and Celeste O’Connor.

In Scream 7, “[w]hen a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”
