Gilbert Speaks on ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Season 3 Episode 4

Well, I think this episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon answers some questions but leaves us with a few puzzlers, such as Daryl and Carol’s relationship.

La Justicia Fronteriza

Why are Fede (Oscar Jaenada) and Antonio (Edwardo Noriega) so against Roberto (Hugo Arbues) and Justina (Candela Saitta) being together? I think it has to do with a dark secret between Fede and Antonio…but we aren’t given time to play detective because Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are with Valentina (Irina Bjorklund) and her men fixing their sailboat and learning how to hopefully learn how to sail the seas.

I love Valentina. She knows the seas, having worked on ships most of her life, but she is also happy living at the lighthouse with her men. Valentina, after observing the interactions between Daryl and Carol, assumes that they are lovers. Both Carol and Daryl denied this, but I am almost positive that while on Hershell’s farm, Carol and Daryl went off somewhere, alone. Does anyone else remember this episode? Valentina asks Daryl to take one of her men, Cooper (Samuel Sargeant), back to America with them. He is a good sailor, and he wants to find his mom. But before any decisions can be made, they are attacked by Los Primitivos.

Feeling more like a scene from Mad Max, the primitives come out of nowhere, and unfortunately for Cooper, his cruise back to the States is cancelled. Bells ringing off in the distance have Daryl and Carol running back to Solaz Del Mar.

Conclusion

So…the Primitivos outfitted in skulls, both human and animal, were allowed to attack Fedo’s town? Didn’t Guillermo guarantee protection to Fedo for the yearly barter of young girls? Did Guillermo allow this attack because of his missing men, or are the Primitivos a danger to every town they encounter? In tonight’s episode, we are introduced to catapult-flaming walkers, or as I would describe them, interesting, but nothing more than stuffing…

Carol (being a people pleaser…even if this means possible death for her and Daryl) goes with Antonio to find Roberto. We all know that Daryl is going to go along because he needs to protect Carol, which brings us back to the relationship between Carol and Daryl. I know that the showrunners of The Walking Dead Universe want us to only think of Carol and Daryl as friends, but I live in the real world, and I am telling you that I remember that scene so very long ago, where our two Ninja Warriors spent a night together while on the farm.

There is no way in hell that they don’t love each other. Valentina guessed right. Carol and Daryl can deny all they want, but they act more like a married couple than friends. Let’s look at the evidence. They fight all their battles as a team; each one guessing the other’s move. It’s like they are reading each other’s minds. They don’t need to speak. They know each other well, especially in dangerous situations.

Yes, Carol was married to Ezekiel (Khary Payton), but that didn’t last. Daryl had a fling with Leah Shaw (Lynn Collins) and later seemed interested in Connie (Lauren Ridloff). He also fell in love with Isabelle (Clemence Poesy) while in France, but Carol left her comfortable place in the States and went searching for Daryl. That act alone confirms that this is more than a friendship. I have close friends, some male, but I can tell you right now that I would not risk my life fighting walkers, crazy humans and an uncertain trip across the Atlantic to look for anyone unless I was emotionally committed. I would risk my life for my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren…but a male friend without benefits or an emotional connection. NOPE!

The showrunners need to add some tension to this series to keep us interested. After eleven seasons of The Walking Dead, and three seasons of spinoffs…I feel like I am stuck in that film, Groundhog Day. We need to add some tension to the series, be it sexual or something out of left field, like a comet hitting Spain or Alexandria. Catapult flaming walkers are not going to do it for me.
