Fan Expo Canada 2025: Spotlight on Kalman Andrasofszky

Fan Expo Canada 2025 kicks off today, Thursday, August 21 and runs through Sunday, August 24. There’s so much to see and do – check out our preview in the most recent episode of Biff Bam Pop! Presents…here. As part of our coverage, we had a chance to talk to a few artists who will be on hand throughout the weekend.

Kalman Andrasofszky got his start producing Spot and cover illustrations for roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, and Vampire: The Masquerade, among others. In 2003, Kalman co-created and illustrated the comic book series iCandy for DC. Since then, he has gone on to freelance extensively for comic book publishers including Marvel, DC, Valiant and BOOM! Studios. He’s produced art and covers for such titles as Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, Captain America, Batman: Beyond, Fantastic Four, Dazzler, NYX, X-23, and G.I. Joe. In 2012, Kalman re-imagined the iconic Canadian hero Captain Canuck and helped reboot his entire universe. Recently, Kalman has been producing covers for publishers such as Valiant Comics and Marvel Comics.

Andy Burns: How psyched are you for 4 days of Fan Expo?

Kalman Andrasofszky: It’s only gonna be 3 days for me this year. Thursday is my 50th birthday, so I’m taking it off! Very psyched for those other 3 days though!

Andy Burns: Have you ever attended the show as a fan? If so, what was your experience like?

Kalman Andrasofszky: I mean, yeah, sure. But that was so long ago (like back in the 20th Century), it was an entirely different con then. I’m old, man. (See my previous answer for specifics.)

Andy Burns: When you get a table at a con, be it Fan Expo or any others, do you set any goals or expectations in mind as to what you want to come away with?

Kalman Andrasofszky: I’m kind of stoic about these things. I focus my goals more on what I arrive at. Have I made prints of all my newest work? Have I updated my price list and labelled everything? Fresh pens and markers in my commission bag? (NOTHING worse than a drawing tool dying on you midway through. BLARGH). The rest is out of my hands. I’ve had years when something big (for me) just dropped and barely moved the needle, and other years where I’d been out of the limelight and almost didn’t go, but ended up doing really well.

Andy Burns: What are you working on right now that might be of interest to Fan Expo visitors?

Kalman Andrasofszky: I’m hard at work on a new, as yet unannounced creator-owned comic series at IMAGE, but I’m not supposed to really talk about that yet! So instead, I’ll focus on a couple of cover art assignments that are dropping right now and should both be available at the con.

First up is a variant cover for West Coast Avengers #10 from Marvel, featuring Omega Ultron, the new big bad.

Second is the cover art for the Cauldron: Forbidden Appetites hardcover collection from RAID Press.

Andy Burns: If you manage to get any time away from your table, is there anything you’re hoping to check out at Fan Expo this year?

Kalman Andrasofszky: I really want to get a copy of Black Helm #1 by Scott Brian Woods! It’s a self-published epic Viking fantasy in cool retro ’70s cartoon style, created, written and drawn by Scott, and it’s debuting at Fan Expo.

You can find Kalman Andrasofszky at Fan Expo Canada 2025, Friday through Sunday.
