Fan Expo Canada 2025 kicks off today, Thursday, August 21 and runs through Sunday, August 24. There’s so much to see and do – check out our preview in the most recent episode of Biff Bam Pop! Presents…here. As part of our coverage, we had a chance to talk to a few artists who will be on hand throughout the weekend.

Dave McCaig is a Canadian artist and colourist who also works in the animation industry. Comics he has worked on include Adam Strange, X-Men, Star Wars, Superman: Birthright, The Matrix Comics, Nextwave, New Avengers, Northlanders, American Vampire, and Nemesis.

Andy Burns: How psyched are you for 4 days of Fan Expo?
Dave McCaig: Very psyched. I moved from Toronto to Vancouver immediately after Fan Expo last year, so I’m looking forward to coming back to see friends and fans and catch a bite at a few of my old haunts.
Andy Burns: Have you ever attended the show as a fan? If so, what was your experience like?
Dave McCaig: I’ve been working in comics since 1994, the same year Fan Expo was founded. I lived in Winnipeg at the time, and in those pre-internet days the best con for up and comers to meet editors and fellow creators was the San Diego Comic Con, so I really just focused on heading there. I quickly started tabling at conventions, so I never got the chance to attend Fan Expo as a fan. These days, though, I think Fan Expo is a great place for new comic creators to meet fellow pros and get feedback, etc.

Andy Burns: When you get a table at a con, be it Fan Expo or any others, do you set any goals or expectations in mind as to what you want to come away with?
Dave McCaig: That’s changed a lot over the years. Once I started colouring The Walking Dead Deluxe, my table got pretty busy. Now that I do promotional work for the Invincible animated series, as well as colouring covers for all the 20th anniversary Invincible collections, my table is swamped. I’ve had to get creative trying to bring enough prints to keep up with demand without going over checked bag weight limits. A very welcome problem to have!
Andy Burns: What are you working on right now that might be of interest to Fan Expo visitors?
Dave McCaig: Invincible and The Walking Dead with Robert Kirkman are the big draws. I’ll be colouring Walking Dead at my table whenever I get the chance, so people can come check out how that gets done if they have an interest. I also work or work on a lot of projects with Rick Remender, like The Sacrificers and LOW. I’m also always happy to sign any comics people bring by – I’ve colored quite a pile of books over the years, for most publishers. X-Men, Avengers, Batman, Superman: Birthright, Star Wars, etc etc.
Andy Burns: If you manage to get any time away from your table, is there anything you’re hoping to check out at Fan Expo this year?
Dave McCaig: Chances of me getting away from my table are pretty slim. Again, a good problem to have!
You can find Dave McCaig at Fan Expo Canada 2025 all weekend.
