While I’ve long been a Marvel guy, I’m not so dug in that I won’t acknowledge that the Multiverse Saga has been incredibly hit or miss. Since Avengers: Endgame was released back in the spring of 2019, the only films that have worked wonders for me have been the Spider-Man instalments and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. While I’m optimistic about Thunderbolts*, due out May 2, the film I’m most hopeful about is The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The truth is, FF fans have never had a good Fantastic Four film, even though I do think Rise of the Silver Surfer had its moments. I’m also of the mind that Josh Trank’s film could have been compelling if not for the blatant studio interference the director had to deal with. All that being said, Marvel Studios now has the rights to the characters, and it looks like they’ve made something unique and decidedly fantastic. I hope I’m not wrong.
