Trailer Time: ’28 Years Later’ Reminds Us That Zombies Do Run

It seems appropriate to include ‘years’ in the title of the latest installment of the ’28 Days’ zombie franchise, as this year marks 22 years since the first film, 2002’s 28 Days Later (feel old yet?) and fans have been waiting almost that long for a followup to 2007’s sequel 28 Weeks Later. Well, fast-moving zomfans, wait no more, because the dead walk again in the brand new trailer for 28 Years Later.

Set, ahem, 28 years after the last film, a small band of people led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Jaime have huddled together on a tiny island with a narrow bottleneck connecting it to the mainland. They’re doing okay, largely because they’ve been separated from the horrors happening elsewhere, where the infected have evolved into even more horrific abominations along with the scattered few deeply fucked up humans still living among them.

28 Years Later brings back original 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle, who also co-wrote the script with Alex Garland and who shot the film on a bunch of iPhones, apparently. Taylor-Johnson (who will be having a big 2025 with this film as well as Kraven) is accompanied by Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, and franchise vet Cillian Murphy.

28 Years Later hits theatres on June 20, 2025 from Sony Pictures.
