31 Days of Horror 2024: Gilbert Speaks on ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ – Season 2 Episode 3

Last week’s kiss brought out a rhapsody of groans from Team Daryl/Carol . This week, we deal with betrayal.

L’Invisible

In this week’s episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, “L’Invisible”, we Americans get to thank the French once more for all the gifts they gave us: The French Revolution, The Statue of Liberty, good wines and cheese, and best of all, experimental walkers.

We finally get to learn the back story of Genet (Anne Charrier). Ninja Carol (Melissa McBride) tells Genet that the reason she is in France is to kill Daryl. Carol is a survivor, and she knows how to play people…but Genet has risen from the lowest ranks and is not easily fooled. Genet was a lowly housekeeper at the Louvre, wiping up the mess left by inconsiderate tourists, mostly Americans. Come on guys, we need to admit that we have a bad reputation for being slobs. The day that the apocalypse hit France, Genet was meeting with Sabine (Tatiana Gousseff) and other workers to form a union. The workers were underpaid and mistreated by their managers. Genet was married and hoping to start a family of her own, but as luck would have it…her husband is attacked in front of her. Genet, Sabine and many of the visitors and staff are locked inside the Louvre and this gives Genet time to study the significance of the religious artwork including the Mona Lisa.

The very fact that The Walking Dead crew were even allowed to film around the Louvre with their walkers, fake blood and the rest is amazing. I am getting to learn more about France and Paris with Daryl Dixon than I’ve learned from the Travel Channel. One day, I will get there in person. While Carol secretly tries to find anyone who can give her information on Daryl…Losang ( is getting ready to host a miracle.

Laurent

We finally find out what Laurent’s (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) secret power is…almost. Sylvie (Laika Blanc Francard) realizes Losang’s plans and tries to find the boy. Losang, who has drugged the boy, plans on doing an experiment, but he needs a volunteer. Unfortunately, the experiment is to test if Laurent is walker-proof.

Conclusion

I am withholding some rather juicy spoilers. I was tempted, but there is just so much happening in this one episode. I think this episode was my favorite. The little review offered after each episode gives us more insight on the actors themselves, for instance…Louis was very upset about Sylvie not being in future episodes. They had become friends. Oops! That was a spoiler. Anne Charrier loves Melissa McBride’s sense of humor. Setting up the apocalypse scene had to be done meticulously in order to protect the Louvre’s Pyramid.

I will tell you this. Carol has met her match. Genet is no dummy. Religious zealots, like Losang, are dangerous. We are dealing with this in the states with the pushing of Project 2025. Daryl has fallen in love but unfortunately…I doubt that Isabelle (Clemence Poesy) will see the fireflies and Tinkerbells. But who knows…anything is possible in Paris.
