Activate, the interactive gaming experience and viral TikTok sensation, just launched its fourth location in Ontario with a new facility that opened in Mississauga on June 14, 2024. Following the success of its other venues in Brampton, Burlington, and Scarborough, Activate has swiftly become a national gaming sensation, redefining entertainment with its state-of-the-art facilities.
Founded in Canada and rapidly expanding across North America, Activate boasts 13 locations in Canada and 10 in the United States, attracting a whopping 2.6 million players worldwide. This latest addition in Mississauga promises to uphold Activate’s reputation for innovation and boundless fun.
Spanning over 9,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art Activate Mississauga facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including snazzy high-tech electronic wristbands that sign members in, track progress, tally points, and unlock prizes as players navigate challenges. There’s a running leaderboard that gets updated with the standings of everyone playing in the facility.
Activate caters to both cooperative and competitive gaming preferences, allowing groups of two to five players to engage in teamwork or friendly rivalry across different difficulty levels from Level 1 easy to Level 10 extreme. I recently had the opportunity to check out the new Mississauga location. As someone totally new to the Activate experience, I was paired up with two Activate devotees with years of experience at their different facilities to show me the ropes of each of the different rooms.
Among my favourite games at Activate Mississauga are the Mega Grid, a viral TikTok sensation featuring over 500 flashing multi-activated rainbow-colored tiles, and Strike, a game where players take aim at moving targets in a race against the clock. The Laser room offers a way for players to live out their Mission: Impossible fantasies, strategically dodging laser beams, while Hoops is an elevated take on arcade-style basketball games. Being able to adjust the difficulty level before starting a game ensures that there isn’t a steep learning curve.
As they continue to expand and grow, Activate promises a fun outing for groups looking to bond and challenge themselves in a thrilling environment. The perfect setting for families, groups of friends, dates, corporate team building, etc. Beyond Mississauga, Activate has established its presence in major Canadian cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax, and Brampton, as well as big U.S. markets including Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, and New Jersey. The company’s ambitious expansion plans include additional openings in Southern Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, with international ventures such as Dubai in Fall 2024 and the UK in 2025.
