Welcome to a special Tuesday instalment of What’s Going On, Biff Bam Pop’s weekly new music roundup. If you’re in Canada, we hope you had a great Victoria Day long weekend. This week, we’ve got two big pop singles from homegrown superstars Sofia Camara and Preston Pablo. Plus, hot new releases from Wilderado, d4vd, and Cloud Cult. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow the artists.
Sofia Camara – Canadian pop sensation Sofia Camara is out now with her new single “Myself” featuring Portuguese pop star Fernando Daniel via Universal Music Canada and 21 Entertainment. The track follows the release of Sofia’s heart-wrenching emotive ballad “Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent),” which quickly amassed millions of streams. Switching gears, “Myself” is an upbeat pop-rock banger that sees Sofia Camara and Fernando Daniel seeing about young love and all that entails.
“Having Fernando be part of this song is so special – not only because he makes amazing music and is such a kind soul, but also because it ties in with my roots being from Portugal. Representing my country is something that is very special to me,” says Sofia Camara about the new release. “’Myself’ is about being in love with somebody but not wanting to share how you feel with this person because you’re so scared to lose the friendship that came along with being in a relationship.”

Wilderado – Tulsa-based band Wilderado has officially announced the release date for their new full-length studio album on the way. Talker is due out on September 20th via Bright Antenna Records. Recorded in Norman, Oklahoma, the band worked with producers Chad Copelin (Sufjan Stevens, SYML) and James McAlister (Gracie Abrams, The National) on the new album. Speaking on the new project, Wilderado frontman/guitarist Max Rainer stated: “I’m proud to say we made an album that feels like home and weathers who we are.” The band has also shared the album’s title track as their latest single. “Talker” is a gorgeous acoustic single with a homey feel that really highlights Rainer’s signature vocals.

Cloud Cult – Indie-rockers Cloud Cult are back! The outfit led by frontman Craig Minowa announced a US headline tour and a forthcoming new studio album, due out this August via the band’s eco-conscious label Earthology Records. Listeners won’t have to wait long to hear new music as Cloud Cult dropped the lead single “I Am A Force Field.” The powerful self-reflective track was written, recorded, and produced by Minowa while being alone in the Wisconsin woods. “Being alone in the trees for so long really allowed me to lend an ear to the wild little kid inside of me in ways that I haven’t heard in a long time, and I think that little boy really took over this song,” shared Minowa.

d4vd – 19-year old superstar d4vd’s latest single “Feel It” has already resonated with listeners around the world due to it being featured in the latest season of Amazon Prime Video’s animated superhero series Invincible. The bouncy feel-good summer banger features d4vd’s melodic crooning. “Feel It” now has a Nick Walker-directed music video that leans into the superhero elements as seen in Invincible. d4vd shares on the video: “When in the process of making the music video, my good friend Nick Walker (director) and I knew we wanted to do something much different than my usual music video aesthetic. We decided to incorporate my skills in martial arts and gymnastics to pay homage to the action-packed animated show Invincible, which I wrote the song ‘Feel It’ for. It felt very full circle.”

Preston Pablo – JUNO Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Preston Pablo is back with another hot remix of his hit “Dance Alone.” We previously covered the remix with Qing Madi & Nonso Amadi, but now Preston has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning Colombian artist Juliana. The verse and additional vocals sung by Juliana Velásquez turns up the heat on “Dance Alone” and adds a steamy quality to the already insanely catchy pop hit. We can’t wait to see what Preston Pablo does next.
“Getting to make this remix with Juliana was so fun,” says Preston Pablo. “We collaborated on something before this remix and when I first heard her voice, I knew she was special. I got the chance to go down to Bogotá, Colombia to film the music video and hang with Juliana and her team. She’s a great person with so much passion and a big heart. She took me around the city and showed me a little bit of what life is like in her home. It really made this collaboration so much more meaningful aside from the music itself. It was an amazing experience that I’m honoured to share with the world!”
