Figure Friday: Kitty Kaiju, Daria + Jane + Duncan Idaho’s Long Blade

Back to the Figure Friday mines! Josh covered a lot of good preorder stuff last week (Wolverine…so hot right now) but, oh no we’re not done yet. Let’s see what’s what and what’s weird out there in the action figure world this week.

Kitty Kaiju by JXK.Studio

If there’s one thing I love about writing about toys, it’s that I can influence my friends to buy stuff. Such is the case with JXK.Studio’s Kitty Kaiju figures. When I saw the listings for these pop up, I thought, “these are rad as hell. I must show X and Y.” Truth told, I do this a lot so my friends will buy cool stuff…so I don’t have to.

It’s well known that I keep a firm hand on my collection and I agonize over purchases. I don’t have a large house so I try and keep my nerdery to one room with a couple of tasteful flourishes in the other living areas. You’ll get a general idea of what I’m about but I don’t have a ziggurat of Pop! Vinyl boxes in my dining room. Think mid-century modern with a twist of Star Trek and a dash of Transformers. Less “incel” and more Jodorowsky’s The Incal.

The Kitty Kiajus are amazing but I simply do not have the space for them. I want to have the space for them but if I get to the point where I’m having to rotate out pieces for display I think I may have gone overboard.

The pieces are scheduled for Q4 of this year and they come in both orange and black variants. The destroyed city diorama is sold separately (devious).

Daria and Jane figure set by Mondo

Now here’s something that feels long overdue. As I wrote that last sentence I heard Daria’s sarcastically deadpan tone in the back of my mind, a testament to one of MTV’s all-time great cartoons.

In the lead up to writing this column, I wondered if Daria could perhaps be one of the greatest spinoff shows ever produced, even eclipsing its parent show Beavis and Butt-Head? I’m sure someone in the comments is going to be like, “Um actually NCIS was spun off from JAG” to which I say, shut it.

The Daria and Jane set comes with all the following great stuff:

PRODUCT INCLUDES

  • Daria Figure
  • Neutral Portait
  • Smiling Portrait
  • Neutral Glasses
  • Flame Glasses
  • Neutral Arms
  • Crossed Arms
  • Daria + Jane Interlocking Arms
  • Jane Figure
  • Neutral Portrait
  • Smiling Portrait
  • Neutral Arms
  • Accessory holding arms
  • Boombox
  • Mystic Spiral CD
  • Camera

The bad news here is that there was a limited edition that came with some truly sublime extras but it’s long since sold out. But these two can be yours for the reasonable price of $125 and it’s set to ship in November.

Dune (2021) Long Blade of Duncan Idaho Replica

From the “Okay…cool.” department, we’ve got Jason Momoa’s sword. I’ve somehow managed to go four decades without becoming a “sword guy.” Swords are cool and all that, but I don’t think I could pull off having them as wall decor…and I took fencing in college (Got a “B” in the class, didn’t get asked to join the team, but it’s okay it was my last semester anyways…don’t worry about it).

Protect your House from the Sardaukar and read this product description!

A legendary Swordmaster and virtuoso warrior, Duncan Idaho may be House Atreides’ deadliest weapon. A man of loyalty and lethality, his guiding principle is to fight for the royal family as though they were his own, and to defend Paul Atreides with his life.

United Cutlery’s Duncan Idaho replica long blade is an exact reproduction of the actual filming prop used in the films. A 22 3/8” 3cr13 stainless steel blade is 4mm thick and finished in a semi-gloss black coating. The blade is engraved with the Caladanian letters TVWYZ, which is an acronym for “Triumph of Valor and Will as Your Zenith.” The hawk sigil of House Atreides is stamped just above the handle. An injection-molded nylon handle is hand-wrapped with imitation black leather to mimic the actual screen-used prop.

The stunning reproduction can be displayed on its wooden wall display, which is adorned by the hawk sigil of House Atreides. A certificate of authenticity is also included.

This can be yours for $225 and is expected to ship in Q4 along with your Kitty Kaiju (probably).
