Figure Friday: Pre-order Round Up

There’s been quite a few preorders and announcements lately that have caught my attention. The Four Horsemen have an interesting sale coming up and both McFarlane and Hasbro had some preorders drop that were exciting. Let’s take a look at what’s good on this Figure Friday.

StoreHorsemen is getting the shipping offices prepped for another in-stock sale. This time around they’re offering The Mysteries of Mythoss mystery boxes. Inside the mystery box you’ll receive one older “chase” figure and one newer figure from the Mythic Legions lines. This is a great opportunity for newer fans to the line to get their hands on some older, more desirable figures without the secondary market prices. I’m hoping for an Eagalus, but there are so many awesome figures on the list that I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

McFarlane Movie Maniacs have announced some preorders recently that have me pretty stoked. The Dude from The Big Lebowski and Wooderson from Dazed and Confused are the latest additions to the six-inch statuesque line of figures.

I’d love a line of articulated Lebowski figures, but this will do for now. This is the image of Jeff Bridges that jumps in my brain when he comes to mind. The Dude in his sunglasses, robe and boxers standing in the dairy section grabbing some half and half for the perfect White Russian. I wouldn’t be opposed to a deluxe offering with The Dude and Maude dancing together in the dream sequence.

Dazed and Confused’s Wooderson was the big-screen debut of Matthew McConaughey. This is only the second McConaughey figure to my knowledge, which is a little surprising considering the length of his career. This one’s a bit of a head scratcher to me because while this role brought us the legendary line “Alright, alright, alright.” It also brought us the possible admission of statutory rape in “I get older but they stay the same age.” Now captured in six-inch form for all time. Yay?

Another set of McFarlane Movie Maniacs that popped up on my radar recently was from the Amazon Prime series Fallout based on the series of games from Bethesda. I binged the series over the weekend and have to say it was a delight. It may be my favorite video game adaptation to date. They found some great ways to incorporate gameplay elements into the storytelling while keeping it entertaining. There’s a sense of humor that carries over from the game to the Prime series which helps take away some of the edge that the gory scenes might have carried otherwise. At least that’s what I tried to tell my wife while she was complaining about the gory scenes. Your mileage may vary. The story was excellent with Easter Eggs aplenty and I can’t wait to see where they go in season 2. Oh, and Walton Goggins, Walton Goggins, Walton Goggins. That is all.

I’ve been taking it easy on Legends as of late, but there were some really great reveals this week that deserve some attention. We’re long overdue for a pre-Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel or as we’re now referring to her, Warbird apparently. I get it, we don’t want to confuse our Ms. Marvel’s, but I fell in love with Carol as Ms. Marvel and I loved that version of the character. Sure, she was Warbird, but she’ll always hold a special place in my heart as Ms. Marvel. I’m excited to get this on my shelf regardless of what we’re calling her.

While I never read Superior Spider-Man, I can appreciate a bad ass figure when I see one. I hope those legs will hold up over time because that pose is absolutely killer. Can’t wait to get Doc Ock Spidey when he drops later this year.

We couldn’t get the HasLab Engine of Vengeance funded, but Hasbro wasn’t ready to abandon Ghost Rider this year. I wonder if this had been included with the HasLab or at least announced as coming in 2024 if it would have helped the EoV get funded? We’ll never know, but I know I’ll be grabbing Danny Ketch and all of those pretty flame effects once he hits helves.

I loved the early Astonishing X-Men books. Jon Cassaday’s art was on point and his Wolverine was really underrated, in my opinion. The last time we got an Astonishing Wolvie was during the ToyBiz days and this Logan appears to be worth the wait. Not a pin in sight and a couple excellent head sculpts for the Ol Canucklehead. If the Legends Team is taking requests, I’ll take a chromed out Astonishing Colossus and Kitty Pride with Lockheed Deluxe 2-Pack, please!

The Heroes for Hire are getting an updated 2-Pack. Luke Cage and Danny Rand have never looked better, it really makes me want the Daughters of the Dragon to go alongside these two. Iron Fist comes with 8 (!) sets of hands for all your Kung Fu posing needs. I love the addition of Luke’s knuckledusters. This could have been a simple offering of a guy in jeans and a tee shirt, but the small addition of details like that make me appreciate the figure even more.
