Dua Lipa has been teasing her new era on social media for a few weeks, and now she’s back with “Houdini.” The frenetic slice of nu-disco was produced by Danny L. Harle (Caroline Polachek, Shygirl, Liam Gallagher) and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. What’s “Houdini” all about? According to Dua: “This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom. “Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.” The rest of the forthcoming album’s material is said to have more of a psychedelic feel. Stay tuned to What’s Going On for more on that!

The Throwaway Scene – Sheffield emo rock outfit The Throwaway Scene are staking their claim as being ones to watch. The band released their new single, “Who Else Is In The Room,” much to the delight of their ever-growing fanbase. The raucous track is a sonic punch in the face and dissects what it’s like to express grief through anger. Speaking on “Who Else Is in the Room,” The Throwaway Scene’s vocalist Oliver states: “‘Who Else Is In The Room’ gave us a great opportunity to tell more of our story and explore how a person can use anger as a defensive tool, either by choice or as a response to traumatic events. Even when presented with a logical solution, grief can dramatically alter perspectives, turn everything against us, and ultimately breed a really hostile mind.”

Wilderado – Just a few weeks ago, we filled you in on Wilderado’s new rendition of “In Between” featuring Matt Berninger of The National. Having Berninger’s vocals on the track elevates what was already sure to be one of the best singles of the year. Wilderado have now teamed up with UK artist Edd Carr for a stunning lyric video to accompany this new version of the band’s recent single. Executive director and co-founder of The Sustainable Darkroom, Edd Carr’s work has been exhibited by Louis Vuitton, CIRCA x Dazed, and Fashion Film Festival Milan. Wilderado are hard at work on their sophomore album, so expect to hear a lot more about that here in What’s Going On.

Kareen Lomax – Rising R&B artist Kareen Lomax is out now with “SELF CARE,” her latest single on the music is fun imprint. As you’d imagine from the title, this Daoud-produced jam is an ode to taking care of yourself. With a fresh modern sound and vocals reminiscent of greats Tracy Chapman and Nina Simone, there’s no one doing it quite like this Atlanta-raised and LA-based performer. What does self-care mean to Kareen Lomax? The singer states: “Self-care to me means putting everything I got on pause and loving myself for a moment. My go-to practices can log me out of my mind and ground me when life is life-ing. Journaling, so I have a place to put my thoughts, a walk in nature, and forgiving the past through music and reflection are some ways I show love to me. Grief and all that comes with loss really nudged me to take a deeper look inside and take action, to take care”
