Who doesn’t love a good team-up? When they’re done right, such as in the ’70s when Marvel Two-in-One had The Thing teaming up each month with a different Marvel hero, you wind up with some fun stories that feel just a little different from other books out there.
Not every team-up runs in the world of fun, such as the new one that has Ghost Rider and Wolverine hooking up for a short, supernatural crossover that begins in Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Destruction Alpha #1.
Written by Benjamin Percy and illustrated by Geoffrey Shaw, this issue takes us back in time when a young boy thought to be a mutant is brought to Charles Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters; however, it’s quickly determined that the boy isn’t a mutant. He’s something far, far different, and he’s killing mutants.
Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Destruction Alpha #1 was a bit of an unexpected treat for me, as I’ve never quite been into any of the Ghost Riders that have permeated the Marvel universe. However, Benjamin Percy is excellent at crafting hero horror and he sets the stage for an interesting story. Meanwhile, Geoffrey Shaw’s art is gruesome when it has to be, while also doing a solid job depicting some of my favourite X-Men.
If you’re looking for a scary Marvel story that also feels like a bit of a break from the current Fall of X, you’ll likely enjoy Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Destruction Alpha #1. It picks up this week in Ghost Rider #17.
