It’s Figure Friday…what going on this week? Aliens are real or some shit? I dunno. Let’s get to the action figures.
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Elvira (Very Scary X-Mas version) by NECA

It’s the end of July so that means it’s time to start thinking about Christmas. We’re also less than 100 days away from Halloween so if you haven’t started shopping yet, that’s on you, pal. NECA has shown up to save the day with the perfect marriage between Halloween AND Christmas with their “Very Scary X-Mas” edition of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Check it out:
The devilishly delightful Cassandra Peterson has played the part of Elvira for more than 40 years with grace, humor and more than a little camp. NECA is proud to present this hauntingly holiday themed figure for your horror collection. This Deluxe Scary Xmas Elvira 8″ action figure is fully articulated and features tailored fabric clothing, two interchangeable expressions, Bloody Mary, naughty list with quill, tray of gingerdead men cookies, and an articulated ‘Creature Who Was Stirring’ figure with tailored fabric apron, bowl, and spoon. Comes in window box packaging with slipcover.

It’s super cool that Cassandra Peterson is out here marketing the heck out of her Elvira character with her recently published biography, comic book, and scores of action figures and other collectibles. If you don’t like Elvira, I don’t wanna know you.

If getting a holiday themed Elvira isn’t enough for you, the “Creature Who Was Stirring” in more than worth the purchase price for this set. I mean, just look at that guy!
Star Wars Black Series Holiday 2023

It’s been years since I’ve purchased a Star Wars Black Series figure, but for the last couple of years I’ve been super tempted by their holiday themed repaints. They’re just so dang kitschy that they make me wish I decorated for the holidays. I divorced myself from the tradition of putting a Christmas tree up almost a decade ago because I’d be putting it up just for me and that added a whole other level of bleakness to the winter months.
Where was I?

Ah yes, crass commercialism. The figures have no real reason to exist (say it with me) IN CANON since apparently the whole Star Wars galaxy celebrates the Wookie’s Life Day over Christmas. It’s kind of nice when you think about it, a fully inclusive and non-religious winter holiday? I’m also legally obligated to tell you that you must see the Star Wars Holiday Special at least once in your life. Years ago after I bought a bootleg VHS copy I attempted to make it an annual tradition, watching it once with friends and we were all rendered speechless by it. It’s probably the worst thing Harrison Ford has even been in, way worse then Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

There’s a whole pant-load of these figures coming this year, take a look:
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES EWOK (HOLIDAY EDITION): Features holiday-themed deco, including a cloak in festive colors, and packaging. The figure comes with a Porg toy and 3 accessories.
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES MANDALORIAN SCOUT (HOLIDAY EDITION): Features holiday-themed deco, including the Mandalorian Scout’s armor in festive colors, and packaging. The figure comes with a 6-inch-scale Anzellan figure and 3 accessories.
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES PURGE TROOPER (HOLIDAY EDITION): Features holiday-themed deco, including armor in festive colors, and packaging. The figure comes with a BD-1 toy and 2 accessories.

STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES KX SECURITY DROID (HOLIDAY EDITION): Features holiday-themed deco, including armor in festive colors, and packaging. The figure comes with a BD-1 toy and 2 accessories.

These sweet bastards will presumably be going up for pre-order soon so if you NEED to get them you can do it then. Or you can just wait until December 26th and scoop them up on clearance!
