In this week’s instalment of What’s Going On, we’ve got the latest from Valley, Moneybagg Yo & GloRilla, Savannah Re, and Andy Grammer. Plus, the return of Miley Cyrus! As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow the artists.
Miley Cyrus – Fresh off dazzling viewers with her Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on NBC with godmother Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus is back with her highly anticipated new single “Flowers.” Released on her ex Liam Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday (shady lol), the lyrics are a response of sorts to the Bruno Mars song “When I Was Your Man” that Hemsworth dedicated to Miley when they were still together. With lyrics like “I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand. Talk to myself for hours, say things you don’t understand”, “Flowers” is a fiercely independent and cathartic empowerment anthem that we all need right now. Miley’s eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation is due out on March 10th.

Valley – JUNO Award nominated Valley kicked off the new year with the announcement of their sophomore album Lost In Translation, due out on June 23rd. The first taste of what’s to come from the project is the lead single “Throwback Tears.” Honest, bright, and colorful, it’s signature Valley. The emotive and reflective track is propelled by fun production and an undeniable melody. Speaking on “Throwback Tears”, lead vocalist Rob Laska says: “Leading with ‘Throwback Tears’ as the first single always felt right. It has cheeky new year, new me energy. Sad yet playful, which we always gravitate toward with our production and lyrics. It very much feels like the door swinging open to a breakbeat and us asking you to step into the new sonic world we’ve created around Lost In Translation.”

Moneybagg Yo & GloRilla – Two of the hottest rappers on the scene today have teamed up for a fierce new single that’s sure to warm up your winter. Moneybagg Yo & GloRilla have gotten together for “On Wat U On.” The two MCs go back and forth trading bars, essentially acting out a dramatic lover’s quarrel over the bass-heavy production. From cheating accusations to blowing up your lover’s phone with texts, some may find the depiction of a toxic relationship all too relatable but that’s a testament to just how hard the two rappers went on the track. “On Wat U On” is sure to keep the momentum going for both Moneybagg Yo & GloRilla. Keep your eyes on them!

Savannah Ré – JUNO Award winner and one of Canada’s fastest-rising homegrown R&B sensations Savannah Ré has joined forces with Canadian-based Nigerian singer-songwriter Nonso Amadi for a remix of her song “Closure.” Savannah Ré fans will remember “Closure” as originally being the second single from her sophomore EP No Weapons. Its Baile-funk-inspired sound was met with critical praise and showed a different side of the Toronto artist. This new remix with Nonso Amadi further showcases Savannah Ré’s growth and proves that she is a talent that can tackle a variety of sounds and styles.

Andy Grammer – Emmy Award-winning artist Andy Grammer is back with “These Tears”, his brand new single. Perhaps Grammer’s most inspiring song yet, “These Tears” follows the trials and tribulations of loss and coming out on the other side. The lyrics are raw and uplifting and take listeners on an emotional rollercoaster, but that’s what fans have to come love from the Dancing With The Stars alum. What’s “These Tears” all about? Andy Grammer says: “Letting go…is hard work. I actually thrive with most kinds of hard work. Tell me how many miles to run, I’ll do it. Tell me how many songs I have to write to chase excellence, I’ll crush it. Hard work and achievement have always been my comfort zone.” Grammer is working on an album that should be due out later this year. Don’t worry, we will keep you posted on that.
