What’s Going On: Reneé Rapp, Panic! At The Disco, Kasabian, Europa, Logan Mize

In this week’s edition of What’s Going On, we’ve got the latest new releases from Panic! At The Disco, Kasabian, Logan Mize, and Europa. Not only those, but we’ve also got the debut single from the brilliant actress Reneé Rapp. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow the artists.

Reneé Rapp – After a star turn as Leighton on HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls, actress Reneé Rapp is making her recording artist debut with her first single “Tattoos.” Reneé is coming out of the gate swinging with “Tattoos”, the kind of heart-wrenching pop ballad that catapulted many a singer into superstardom. The raw and relatable lyrics show that the North Carolina native is able to tap into a style of vulnerability that will endear her to an entire generation of listeners. Speaking on the honesty in her lyrics and where it comes from, Reneé says: “I was called ‘crazy’ a lot growing up because I didn’t know what was going on with me. As I got older and started going to therapy, I reclaimed the word in a way that feels good to me.” We can’t wait to see what Reneé Rapp does next.

Panic! At The Disco – In huge news for anyone that grew up shopping at Hot Topic, there’s a new Panic! At The Disco album on the way. Viva Las Vengeance, the band’s seventh studio album, is set to drop on August 19. With that announcement comes the release of the title track as the album’s first single along with a music video shot by longtime Panic! At The Disco collaborator Brendan Walter. With its bright shiny pop melodies and witty wordplay, “Viva Las Vengeance” the song is what you’d expect from Brendon Urie and co. What’s the new album all about? Brendon Urie says: “Viva Las Vengeance is a look back at who I was 17 years ago and who I am now with the fondness I didn’t have before. I didn’t realize I was making an album and there was something about the tape machine that kept me honest.”

Kasabian – English rockers Kasabian are playing Knebworth this weekend. And if that already isn’t big enough, they’ve just released a new single “CHEMICALS” for their fans to enjoy. The band’s new album The Alchemist’s Euphoria is due out on August 5 and “CHEMICALS” is another taste of what to expect from the project. The blissed-out track does have a pretty deep message. About the track, Kasabian’s frontman Serge Pizzorno says: “It is me telling myself that it is going to be okay. It was me seeing myself in those few weeks when everything kicked off. It’s the future me saying to that person: ‘This is shit, but don’t worry, it will get better.’ So having a song about talking to yourself is universal, I think. We all have to find a way to deal with the complications, the mess and the mortality of life.”

Europa (Jax Jones & Martin Solveig) – Superstar DJs Jax Jones and Martin Solveig have teamed up again under the alias Europa for their new single “Lonely Heart.” The pair made magic together with their singles “Tequila” featuring RAYE and “All Day All Night” featuring Madison Beer and now they’ve teamed up with rising singer GRACEY. A certified banger, “Lonely Heart” has a hypnotic groove that works well with GRACEY’s stylized vocals. What’s “Lonely Heart” all about? According to Jax Jones: “Lonely Heart’ is about what I want to do on the dancefloor; bring all the lonely hearts together! Jax Jones is for everyone. Martin, Gracey and I – we include everyone, that’s what my music stands for, that’s what I stand for.”

Logan Mize – The sun is shining, the temperature is rising and you might be tempted to reach for a cold one. Well, country sensation Logan Mize has got the perfect summer jam to soundtrack your fun in the sun. The twangy summer anthem sounds like it was tailor-made for kickbacks with friends and family. Explaining how “Crackin’ A Cold One” is a bit of a change of pace from his usual musical output, Logan Mize says: “I’ve spent the last few years riding the wave of some sad songs, so I thought it was time for something light-hearted and fun. I started this song one day while I was push mowing and it made me giggle, but then it got stuck in my head and I knew I had to finish it. My wife, Jill, and good friend Nick Walsh helped me whip it into shape and now here we are about to release the hottest jam of the summer.”
