Whipper Billy Watson Beer Inspired by T.O.’s Wrestling Heritage

In 2021 the folks at Henderson Brewing released Rush Canadian Golden Ale, and now they’re paying tribute to another Canadian icon, this time from the world of professional wrestling.

Pro Wrestling has a long and illustrious history in Toronto that dates back to the 1940’s when East York’s very own “Whipper” Billy Watson headlined shows at the legendary Maple Leaf Gardens. He blazed a trail for the many Canadian superstars who have followed, all the way to the biggest event in Canadian sports entertainment history, WrestleMania 18, which took place at SkyDome 20 years ago in front of 70,000 fans.

Toronto’s Henderson Brewing recently launched its Ides of January: Whipper Watson’s English Pale Mild with notes of crackery malt, toffee and white grapes. Although light bodied, it has a round maltiness with just enough bitterness to balance it out, leaving you with a slightly sweet, yet still crisp finish. This release is an easy drinking, malty English ale – great as a session beer and a perfect way to start off 2022!

For classic wrestling fans that want to take a taste of Ides of January: Whipper Watson’s English Pale Mild, you can visit Henderson Brewing for more info.
