Viceland’s Dark Side of the Ring Season 2 Peels Back the Layers of a Seedy Business

For new fans of wrestling or those of us that have been following it for years, everyone knows that it’s often a very skeevy business, to say the least. Viceland’s Dark Side of the Ring, a miniseries of self-contained one-hour documentaries that expose some of the seedier tales of the squared circle, was a big hit for Vice when it’s eight episodes debuted last year.

Helmed by Evan Husney and homegrown hero Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), the compelling first season of Dark Side of the Ring dealt with some tremendously sensitive material; topics that, in many cases, the bright lights of the WWE have gone to great lengths to avoid. Subjects like Randy “Macho Man” Savage’s problematic relationship with his wife and onscreen manager Elizabeth, the mysterious death of Gino Hernandez, the checkered and often abusive history of The Fabulous Moolah, the death of Bruiser Brody and more were addressed through in-depth interviews and dramatizations that often contradicted the “official story” put forth by the WWE.

On the heels of a successful first season, Viceland green-lit a second that promises to deal with even more controversial subject matter. Things that the WWE and the wrestling community at large tend to shy away from, like Chris Benoit’s murder-suicide in 2007, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka’s alleged murder of his wife Nancy, and the tragic and untimely death of Owen Hart are all slated to be covered this season.

As if the subject matter isn’t enough to draw in an audience, Season 2 of Dark Side of the Ring introduces all-time great and former AEW (“Le”) Champion Chris Jericho as the host and narrator. Chris Gethard will also host an after-show which will air after each episode of the series.

The episode titles for this season of Dark Side of the Ring will be:

  • BENOIT (Part One & Part Two)
  • Brawl For All
  • Natural Born Killer: The New Jack Story
  • The Assassination of Dino Bravo
  • The Final Days of Owen Hart
  • Herb Abrams: The Man Who Would Be King
  • Jimmy Snuka – Sins of the Superfly
  • The Real David Schultz
  • The Road Warriors

Viceland’s Dark Side of the Ring Season Two will air on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern time, with an aftershow at 11pm. The two-part premiere episode about Chris Benoit will air on March 24.
