DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON
Born: May 2, 1972 in Hayward, California
“No matter who you are, being kind is the easiest thing you can do.”
Did You Know?
First athlete (pro-wrestling and CFL) to host Saturday Night Live twice, and has now hosted five times in total, including three appearances since he fully transitioned into acting.
Well known for being one of the friendliest and most liked celebrities, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is arguably today’s most recognizable action star. His fan-friendly approach to the roles he takes, along with a very busy shooting schedule, keeps him at the top of movie-goer’s minds (and there’s no signs of him slowing down).
After the tremendously successful Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Johnson’s last movie, Rampage, was a bit of a letdown at the Box Office (even though it was still extremely fun and entertaining). So far the reviews are mixed for his upcoming high-rise thriller Skyscraper, but what fun is there in listening to the critics? The viewer knows exactly what to expect with a Dwayne Johnson film and I, for one, love his brand of action. Keep ’em coming!
Best Known For: The Scorpion King (“Mathayus”), The Rundown (“Beck”), Doom (“Sarge”), Get Smart (“Agent 23”), Tooth Fairy (“Derek”), The Fast & Furious franchise (“Hobbs”), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (“Roadblock”), Hercules (“Hercules”), San Andreas (“Raymond Gaines”), Central Intelligence (“Bob Jones”), Moana (voice of “Maui”), Baywatch (“Mitch Buchannon”), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (“Spencer”)
Breakout Role: The Scorpion King
Next Project to Look Out for: Skyscraper (In theaters July 13)
Most Famous Role: Since this article is about Johnson’s acting career and not his professional wrestling persona (i.e. “The Rock”), it was his role as “Hobbs” in the Fast & Furious franchise that truly elevated Johnson to A-List action hero (can’t wait for the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off next summer!):
Winner for Favorite Movie Actor (Kid’s Choice Award) in 2018 for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Nominee for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Image Award) in 2018 for Ballers
Nominee for Outstanding Voice Performance (Black Reel Awards) in 2017 for Moana
Nominee for Best Action Performance and Best Hero (MTV Movie Awards) in 2016 for San Andreas

ONE LAST THING:
In his first appearance on Saturday Night Live, Johnson portrays the father of Mr. Peepers, one of the regularly occurring characters of Chris Kattan…and even though I wasn’t a fan of professional wrestling at the time, I couldn’t help but become a fan of The Rock’s after his hosting debut (hilarious!):
