The Week In Horror: Boogeyman Pop, Joe Bob Briggs + more

“Tim! Why are you a two days late with The Week In Horror???”

Shut up, that’s why! I’m having a bad week. But Horror is having a good week, huh? So let’s focus on that.

This weekend, Blumhouse’s Boogeyman Pop premiered at Cinepocalypse! I can’t find a wide release date, so far, but hey, we’re one step closer. The film is written and directed by Brad Michael Elmore with my buddies Wolfmen of Mars doing the score. The film consists of three intermingling stories, with a bat wielding masked mad man called Slugger providing some connective tissue. The trailer is super cool and it kind of seems like a punk rock summer Trick r Treat. So obviously, I already want an action figure of Slugger. Check out the trailer below and keep a look out for Boogeyman Pop hitting a festival near you…

Be excited. Joe Bob Briggs will revive Monstervision on Shudder for a 24 hour marathon on Friday the 13th, this July! Briggs was a different kind of horror host, funny as hell, smart, not ghoulish or vampiric, and he provided important stats on each film, like boob and body count. If you don’t have Shudder yet…uh… do change that. It’s worth it. Here’s Jo Bob in action from back in the day…

Real talk? Clive Barker’s Nightbreed is a top five movie for me. Even before Scream Factory’s special edition director’s cut. Nightbreed was a film I obsessively rented repeatedly. I loved the book it was based on, Cabal. And I collected the Epic Comics series. Well, let the Tribes of the Moon rejoice! Syfy has green lit Nightbreed the series!! Barker is developing the series with Jigsaw’s Josh Stolberg. No premier date yet, but hopefully we’ll get a lot more news very soon. In the mean time, here’s my hero David Cronenberg showing his acting chops…
