Did You Know?
She is one of only ten actors to have been nominated for both a Supporting and Lead Acting Academy Award in the same year for their achievements in two different movies.

My wife and I decided to bring in Halloween this year by finally sitting down and watching all the seasons of American Horror Story (AHS). I’d heard great things about the show, but what I didn’t expect was the incredible performances by Jessica Lange. We’re now in the middle of Season 3 (“Coven”), and with every episode I find myself at the edge of my couch wondering what Lange’s character will do next (and impatiently waiting through the other scenes until she’s on screen again). I’m glad that Lange won the Best Supporting Actress for AHS in 2012, but I also believe it’s a crime that she didn’t win a ‘GG’ for her lead roles (nominate 2013 thru 2015). I understand that she left the show after Season 4, but rumor has it that she will return for some kind of cameo near the end of Season 5.
Breakout Role (according to the masses): King Kong
Breakout Role (according to Leo Craven): King Kong
– To critics, she’s probably better known for her numerous award-winning and nominated roles, but to the general population she broke out with her very first film as the ‘beauty’ to King Kong’s ‘beast’ (although even in this campy remake, Lange still caught the attention of the critics and won the Golden Globe for “Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture – Female”).
Box Office Status: Critical Darling
Next Project to Look Out for: American Horror Story Season 5 (Rumored Cameo Appearance)
Most Famous Scenes (There were too many to choose from so I grabbed this compilation off YouTube; doesn’t quite do her justice, but you’re sure to recognize several of her roles):
Won for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Golden Globe Awards) in 2012 for “American Horror Story”
Won for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Academy Awards) in 1995 for “Blue Sky“
Won for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Academy Awards) in 1985 for “Tootsie”
ONE LAST THING:
Lange received a lot of attention for her role as Elsa Mars in Season 4 of AHS (“Freak Show”), including her musical performance of “Gods and Monsters”:
AND ONE MORE THING…
As intense and twisted as AHS can be, creator Ryan Murphy can’t help but take the viewer completely off track in Season 2 (“Asylum”) with this bizarre scene featuring Jessica Lange’s ‘Sister Jude’ singing “The Name Game”:
