Fury Over Gone Girl: Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

box1

Our Box Office Predictions from a few days back had Gone Girl remaining at the top of the heap over Brad Pitt’s new war flick, Fury. Did Brad flip the script on Ben? And what kind of competition did the Books, Bad Days, and Beginning Vampires put up against the big two? Find out after the jump!

The thinking here at Biff Bam Pop! was that Gone Girl and Fury would grab the top two spots in that order with The Book of Life, Dracula Untold, and The Best of Me taking up the third, fourth, and fifth places. Let’s see how that worked out.

Fury was a bit stronger than we thought, pulling ahead of Gone Girl by a couple million. Jorge Gutierrez’ computer animated fantasy The Book of Life did fairly well with $17 million, and we pretty much called that. We were way off however with the family comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, sliding into fourth place at $12 million. Rounding out the top five was The Best of Me which we nailed within a million.

Dracula Untold holds down sixth place like a giant fist made of bats at just under ten million. Oscar hopeful and Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. brought his The Judge to seventh place, with prequel/spin-off to The Conjuring, Annabelle just under it in a near tie. Denzel Washington continues to equalize as The Equalizer in ninth place, and The Maze Runner holds on to tenth place with four and half million this weekend.

So, to recap, here were the predictions:

1) Gone Girl – $21 million
2) Fury – $20 million
3) The Book of Life – $15 million
4) Dracula Untold – $13 million
5) The Best of Me – $11 million

And here’s how the weekend actually turned out:

1) Fury – $23.5 million
2) Gone Girl – $17.8 million
3) The Book of Life – $17 million
4) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day – $12 million
5) The Best of Me – $10 million

Next weekend we are getting a few horrors for Halloween like Ouija and Exists, as well as the new Bill Murray/Melissa McCarthy comedy St. Vincent and Keanu Reeves action flick John Wick. What will you be seeing next weekend?
