The vote is in! “Sleepy Hollow” is a hit; at least, that’s what my friends have been telling me after watching the show’s premier last Monday. The show has everything: people rising from their graves, witches, demons and a very testy horseman who’s searching for his head. What the ‘Hell’ is going on in the town of Sleepy Hollow? Let’s find out after the jump.
Witches
Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) receives a warning from his witchy wife Katrina (Katia Winter) in a vision. Katrina is stuck in between our world and the spirit world, but she’s determined to help her husband. Seems there’s a nasty witch who’s itching for some “one on one” revenge, and she needs to pay a visit to the descendants of the people who burned her at the stake. While Detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) is arguing with Captain Frank Irving (Orlando Jones) over Ichabod Crane and events of the past few days, Deputy, Andy Dunn (John Cho), looking very much like a Pez dispenser, is brought back to life as the sidekick for bad witch Serilda. Now, Serilda has the power to bring forth all four horsemen of the apocalypse, but first thing on the agenda; she needs to find her bones.
Welcome to the New Age
Ichabod Crane is learning all about modern technology like electric lights, running water (we get a “Revolutionary” peek of Ichabod in the shower), hair dryers, donuts and taxes. “Didn’t we fight a war over unjust taxes?” he asks Abbie. Yeah, big guy, but some things never change. When Ichabod tells Abbie about his vision, they go looking for Sheriff Corbin’s files; they’re missing.
Seems there are secret tunnels all over the place, and Ichabod Crane somehow knows where to find them. In fact, on tonight’s episode, a secret tunnel is found right under the jail. Guess who finds it? If the jail house didn’t exist a few hundred years ago, then how did Ichabod know the tunnel was there? I have no idea, but find it he does. The tunnel holds the history of the bad witch; how she was killed, and by whom. Ichabod and Abbie are in a race against time to stop the bad witch from sautéing a few townsfolk and regaining her earthly body. But, Serilda has friends; Deputy Andy and a few ugly demons are helping her.
A Clue
Abbie gets a ghostly visit from Sheriff Corbin (Clancy Brown) who tells her that the # 49 is important. Is he giving her tips on the daily lottery? No, but we do learn the significance of the number and also meet a family member.
Conclusion
Long sigh…secret tunnels all over the town; a witch that resembles Lilith from True Blood; no one noticing that the body of Deputy Andy is missing; and no headless horseman, although, we do get a visit from Clancy Brown. I have to say that the best part of tonight’s show was the shower scene with Ichabod. What’s your opinion so far?
Yeah this was a good sight weaker than the pilot episode. Still gonna give it awhile, but she’s a-slippin’!
They have everything for a successful show. I’m pulling for them
Love the show so far!
me too. I’m away on vacation, but when I get back, I’ll do the review on parts 3 & 4 🙂
