DVD Tuesday with Scotty G

Limitless – This films stars Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro and is about a writer who is suffering from a severe case of writer’s block.  A chance meeting with an old friend introduces him to a new drug called NZT, which allows him to access all parts of his mind.  When he takes the drug, he no longer has writer’s block, he can learn new languages instantly, he learns to enjoy the arts and most importantly for him, he begins to make a lot of money on Wall Street.  This catches the eye of some shady characters and the writer’s joy in his new found success is short lived, as he’s always dealing with a diminishing supply of NZT and people following him around.  The film was a hit at the box office this spring and has more or less solidified Bradley Cooper as an “A” list actor when it comes to box office performance.

Take Me Home Tonight – This film stars Topher Grace and Anna Faris and is about a recent M.I.T. grad that is wasting his life away in a meaningless job until the night of his life happens (do these only exist in movies or is it just me) and he begins to take his life seriously.  The film had been on studio shelves for a few years before being dumped into theatres this past spring.  As usual, when films get dumped on moviegoers, they bomb at the box office.  I’m sure some audiences will check it out because of the soft spot some have for Topher Grace being in “That 70’s Show” but other than that, this film will probably underwhelm on DVD.

Tekken – This film which is based on the video game series (and I sincerely cannot even remember it being in theatres) is about a boy who witnesses the death of his mother at the hands of a corporation named Tekken.  He vows vengeance and enters a tournament that features the world’s toughest fighters.  If he wins, he will gain his revenge, destroy the Tekken and become the “King of the Iron Fist”.
