The Tourist – This film stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and is about an American tourist (played by Depp) who gets the adventure of a lifetime when a beautiful woman (played by Jolie) sits beside him on a train. It turns out that the tourist is really being used as a decoy to help throw gangsters and the police off the trail of a man named Alexander Pearce. The film was not as big a hit as people thought it would be this winter, but with the names of Depp and Jolie in the film, it will definitely find an audience on DVD.
Yogi Bear – This film features the voice talent of Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake as Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Bear respectively. The plot of the CGI // live action film follows everyone’s two favourite bears in Jellystone Park as they terrorize (in a good natured way of course) visitors by stealing their food. This annoys Ranger Smith, who does everything he can to stop Yogi and Boo-Boo from pulling their pranks. Unfortunately for Yogi, Boo-Boo and Ranger Smith, the mayor has decided to shut down Jellystone Park permanently and the unlikely trio has to team up to save their beloved Jellystone Park. This film grossed almost $100 million in theatres this winter and it should do well on DVD.
How Do You Know – This film stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson and is directed by James L. Brooks. The plot focuses on Witherspoon’s character, a USA softball player, who has just been cut from the team and the two men that are currently in her life. One man is a pitcher for the Washington Nationals while the other is an executive at a company and is now the subject of a criminal investigation. This film was a big bomb at the box office this fall, but I bet audiences give the film a chance on DVD because of the names attached to it. (I mistakenly included this film in last week’s release schedule, so its here again for its proper DVD release).
Skyline – This film is a sci-fi adventure about an alien invasion on Earth. When alien spaceships descend over Los Angeles, they hover over the city and unleash a blue beam directly beneath them. Any human who stares into the light, gets sucked up by the blue beam and their brain is taken from their head and transplanted into the alien spaceship. A few humans are smart enough to not look at the light and try to escape Los Angeles before being killed by the alien invaders. This film has a no name cast and although it was not a hit in theatres, it did gross enough money to make back its budget. We’ll see if it finds an audience on DVD.
Until Next Tuesday!
