It’s cold, grey, and wet, at least in Toronto right now. But don’t worry, this week’s instalment of What’s Going On is packed with a fresh batch of new tunes that cut through the fog and crank up the mood. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.
Grace Ives – NYC alt-pop powerhouse Grace Ives is out now with Girlfriend, her bold, emotionally unfiltered new album. Produced alongside Ariel Rechtshaid and John DeBold, the album blows Grace’s sound into something bigger, glossier, stranger, and more self-assured. The singer also dropped a new music video for the standout track “Trouble,” which captures the song’s restless energy. Prepare to see Grace Ives everywhere!

Tank and the Bangas – Beloved New Orleans outfit Tank and the Bangas just announced The Last Balloon. Due out May 15, the album is the final entry in their vibrant Balloon trilogy. Lead single “Move” pairs their genre-blurring magic and infectious energy with Lucky Daye’s soulful vocals. It’s hot! You can never predict what Tank and the Bangas will do next, which makes it a joy to be a fan.

Sleeping With Sirens – Post-hardcore veterans Sleeping With Sirens return with “An Ending In Itself,” a soaring, emotionally raw anthem that packs an arena-sized punch. Produced by Will Yip, the track pairs emo angst with massive hooks, delivering a message of honesty and survival. It’s a powerful reminder that even after all these years, Sleeping With Sirens still know how to rock hard.

Seahaven – Torrance rockers Seahaven prove they’ve still got it with “Midnight Hour,” a brooding, slow-burning single from their upcoming self-titled album, due out June 5. After six years away, the track finds the band sharpening their emotional edge while leaning into bigger, more massive hooks. Self-produced and polished by Will Yip (hello again!), it signals what this return for the band is all about: reconnecting with their core sound while pushing into deeper, more reflective territory. Mission accomplished!

Durand Bernarr – Fresh off a fabulous GRAMMY win, ever-viral R&B sensation Durand Bernarr is keeping the momentum surging with “Wild Ride.” The slow-burning collaboration sees Bernarr teaming up with James Fauntleroy. Equal parts sensual groove and a lesson in vocal gymnastics, “Wild Ride” is a delicious teaser of what listeners can expect from Bernarr’s forthcoming new album.
