What’s Going On: Maisie Peters, Crown Lands, Sombr, SNACKTIME, Arkells

Bad Bunny just lit up the 2026 Super Bowl halftime stage with the biggest performance of his career. The whole world is buzzing about it and hooked on Benito. If you’re still craving new tunes after all that halftime heat, this week’s instalment of What’s Going On has got a killer roundup of new tracks to soundtrack your week. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.

Maisie Peters – English singer-songwriter Maisie Peters steps into her power on “My Regards,” the sly, tongue-in-cheek lead single from her upcoming album Florescence. Cheeky, flirtatious, and with a sharp point of view, the track flips the “stand by your man” trope on its head and into something more suitable for Gen Z. Maisie even got Chicken Shop Date icon Amelia Dimoldenberg to direct the track’s campy, cinematic, and subversive music video. Florescence is due out May 15.

Crown Lands – Rock duo Crown Lands unleashed a 19-minute prog-rock scorcher, and honestly, it’s well worth the investment of time. The title track from their upcoming album, Apocalypse (out May 15), is a full-blown journey: part sci-fi opera, part righteous-noise sermon. The song was built in their home studio with total creative control. It’s maximalist, expansive, and unapologetically a big swing that cements Crown Lands as one of the fiercest acts in Canada’s rock scene. Who knew something this incredible could come out of Oshawa?

Sombr – Fresh off a hot GRAMMYs moment, polarizing pop prince Sombr is keeping that momentum going. His new single “Homewrecker” lands like a stark, slow-burning confession, pairing his raw songwriting with cinematic drama in a Gus Black–directed video starring young Hollywood royalty Quenlin Blackwell and Milo Manheim. Self-written, self-driven, and emotionally naked in the best way, Sombr is on track to have his biggest career year yet.

SNACKTIME – Philly alternative soul outfit SNACKTIME dropped some new heat. “Who’s Been Stopping You?” is a slick soul-funk rally cry that’s equal parts pump-up jock jam and community anthem. Once you hear it, it makes perfect sense that it soundtracks ESPN’s 30 for 30: The Philly Special. Paired with a bold, tongue-in-cheek cover of Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like an Eagle” on the B-side, it’s swagger, heart, and hometown pride. These guys are great!

Arkells – Hamilton’s hometown heroes Arkells are back with a new album announcement and a big shiny stadium-ready single, because of course they are. Between Us lands April 17 and features collaborations with Grouplove, Portugal. The Man, and Poolside. We also got the release of “Next Summer,” a glossy John Congleton–produced single that sounds engineered for sunset, beer-fueled sing-alongs. The chorus hits, the vibes are earnest, the ambitions are big. They won’t stop until they are crowned Canada’s favourite band. God help us all.
