With the year still light on notable new releases, this week’s instalment of What’s Going On is taking a look back before we take a step forward. Consider it a bit of a necessary rewind, highlighting late-2025 tracks that may have slipped through the cracks during the year-end chaos, but deserve a proper moment in the spotlight now. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.
Flea – After almost five decades of being a bass god in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea stepped out on his own and launched his solo career. A rebirth of sorts, his solo foray sees Flea returning to the trumpet, the first instrument that he fell in love with. His jazzy first single, “A Plea,” is a spiritually charged, genre-blurring meditation urging connection, empathy, and creative courage. Featuring an expansive ensemble led by Flea’s bass, trumpet, and vocals, the track channels jazz freedom and humanist urgency, framing music as a bridge toward something kinder, braver, and beautifully shared. His forthcoming album is due out sometime this year via Nonesuch Records.

Jazzy – Dublin-born dance sensation Jazzy closed out 2025 with absolute heat. She teamed up with producer Spriitzz (aka Spray) on her new single “Can’t Deny It,” released via Polydor’s Chaos imprint. The shiny and nostalgic club track was the perfect way for the buzzworthy DJ to cap off the year. Following her GEWAH Selects project, major slots on the festival circuit, and a DJ Mag Future Star win, Jazzy is one to keep your eye on as dance music continues to explode and evolve.

MIKA – You likely remember “Grace Kelly” and “Love Today” from 2007, but pop visionary MIKA hasn’t stopped. He’s out now with his new single “Immortal Love,” the latest single from Hyperlove, his first English-language album since 2019. Shimmering, warm, and emotionally fearless, the track reflects on connection and unseen bonds, inspired in part by MIKA’s longtime canine companion. The new album finds MIKA back at the piano, blending the intimacy of traditional instrumentation with sleek electronic pop, reaffirming his gift for crafting timeless, big-hearted pop. Hyperlove is set for release on January 23rd via Republic Records.

TyriqueOrDie – Toronto-based dance star TyriqueOrDie kept his momentum going with “breathe,” the introspective new single he released in late 2025 via Universal Music Canada. Sitting at the sweet spot between rap and club culture, the track pairs Ty’s rich flow with a low-slung groove and hypnotic bassline. Written during a brief escape to the mountains of British Columbia, “breathe” captures a rare moment of calm amid the chaos. Produced by NOT UR MOOD, it follows a string of breakout releases and viral hits, further cementing TyriqueOrDie as a vital force at the forefront of Toronto’s underground dance scene. Will this be the year that he goes mainstream?

ParisPlayedYou – It’s been a while since we’ve featured this British Columbia-based rapper. Now known as ParisPlayedYou, the rising star from Vancouver has reinvented himself with a new name and a grittier sound on “Forever Pain.” Co-produced with Mesio Music and Akash Lakhani, the track finds Paris getting deep, wearing his scars openly, and reframing pain as something to be embraced rather than buried. The first release of a bold new era following his rebrand, pairing melodic vulnerability with quiet conviction. ParisPlayedYou sounds focused, evolved, and ready to claim his space with something meaningful to say. We’re here for it!
