September is just whizzing by, but fear not! What’s Going On has got your fall soundtrack sorted. This week’s column is packed with fresh drops across hip-hop, pop, and rock, so carve out a little time and turn up these new releases. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.
Destroy Lonely – Hip-hop superstar Destroy Lonely cements his rockstar status with the release of his latest album </3³. It’s pronounced Broken Hearts 3, for those of you who aren’t in the know. The third installment of his acclaimed series sees Destroy Lonely reconnecting with early collaborators like Clayco, Cxdy, Cade, and Bugz Ronin while also levelling up his sound. Standout tracks include the glitchy trap anthem “jumanji,” the hot collab “open it up” with Ken Carson and the absolute vibe “screwed up.” With a headline-making year already behind him, Lonely now gears up for Playboi Carti’s Antagonist Tour, bringing his boundary-pushing vision to arenas nationwide.

Lola Young – She might be messy, but she’s also unstoppable! South London’s own Lola Young is out now with her bold new album I’m Only F**king Myself. Co-written and produced with Manuka and SOLOMONOPHONIC (Doja Cat, SZA), the record blends the raw honesty that fans have come to love from Lola with irresistible hooks, tackling themes of self-sabotage and growth. She’s got a couple of Canadian dates on her tour, so check her out! Nov 1st in Toronto at HISTORY and Dec 1st in Vancouver at Thunderbird Sports Centre.

Durry – Brother-sister indie rock duo Durry have dropped their latest track “Dead Media”, available now on all digital platforms after previously existing only as a hidden physical bonus track on their new album This Movie Sucks. The song, produced by Phil Odom (Code Orange, Say Anything), is a sharp, hook-filled critique of social media addiction and its impact on culture. Timely! Known for their DIY ethos, witty lyrics, and viral success on TikTok, siblings Austin and Taryn Durry continue to carve their own lane in alternative rock, balancing nostalgic angst with fresh, tongue-in-cheek energy that feels very now.

Nep – Put some Nep in your step! Rising indie-pop star Nep is carving out her place as one of the genre’s most magnetic new voices. Her latest single, “Biketoberfest,” pairs sharp, alternative-pop production with confessional storytelling about outgrowing her Florida hometown. It follows buzzworthy singles “Girls On TV” and “All Around Beauty,” plus a viral acoustic performance of “Doc” from her EP Nep’s Storybook, all showcasing the charm, wit, and self-discovery fueling her rapid ascent. She’s gonna be big, guys!

Moon Panda – Dream-pop outfit Moon Panda returns September 26 with their third album, Dumb Luck (out via Moon Panda/Virgin Music Group), their most collaborative and sensuous work yet. The California/Danish (how often do you see that?) four-piece delivered another taste of what listeners can expect from the album with new single “Penny,” a defiant, personality-packed track. Written and recorded across continents and shaped by major life shifts, Dumb Luck blends lush textures with raw emotion, affirming Moon Panda as one of dream pop’s most captivating voices.
