What’s Going On: Sigrid, Sumo Cyco, J Balvin, The Altons, I Prevail

It’s that time again! What’s Going On is here with your weekly dose of fresh bangers and bliss. This week’s instalment is stacked: I Prevail crank up the emotion with a powerful new single, Sigrid serves carefree summer vibes, and J Balvin just surprise-dropped the ultimate soundtrack for sweaty nights and house parties. Let’s go. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.

Sigrid – Norwegian pop powerhouse Sigrid is back with “Jellyfish,” her luminous new single blending carefree indie-pop nostalgia with her signature soaring vocals. Known for turning pure raw emotion into big festival anthems like “Don’t Kill My Vibe” and “Mirror,” Sigrid leans into playful, joyous energy here. As with everything now, the track was inspired by Y2K and was written while Sigrid was watching Napoleon Dynamite. After two acclaimed albums, global tours, and over 2.2 billion streams, she stepped away from the spotlight to rediscover her spark. The result? A track that feels like a Scandinavian summer: light, flirty, and impossible not to love. We love it!

Sumo Cyco – Canadian genre-benders Sumo Cyco have announced their fourth album NEON VOID, arriving October 24. Lead single “Shivers” is out now. Premiered by MXDWN, the track builds from eerie tension to jagged riffs that hit like an electric shock. Frontwoman Skye (who you may remember as 2000s teen-pop sensation Skye Sweetnam) describes it as being about “that gut feeling when something feels wrong, even if you can’t explain why.” Produced with Salvatore Sam Guiana, NEON VOID promises a bold mix of punk grit, metal fury, and pop sheen.

J Balvin – Global icon J Balvin surprises fans with Mixteip, a 10-track project that comes just in time for the dog days of summer. Blending signature reggaeton rhythms with bold genre experimentation, Mixteip is both a nod to Latin music’s roots and a fearless push forward. Highlights include the irresistibly catchy “Zun Zun” with Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavarez, the salsa-infused “Misterio” featuring Gilberto Santa Rosa, and a Stormzy-assisted drill banger “Uuu.” Add this to your summer playlists!

The Altons – Fresh off a sold-out U.S. tour and a swing through Europe, LA soul outfit The Altons are back with “Love You Like That,” their first new single since releasing their acclaimed Daptone debut Heartache in Room 14. A sun-drenched, piano-laced groove, the track is pure vintage romance that’s dripping with West Coast swagger. If you can’t get enough, catch them on tour with Los Lonely Boys this summer.

I Prevail – We’ve got something for the metalheads! GRAMMY-nominated rockers I Prevail have announced their fourth studio album, Violent Nature, due out September 19 via Fearless Records. Alongside the news, they dropped “Rain,” a blistering yet cathartic single paired with a striking video—the track balances raw aggression with emotional release, tackling themes of suffering and clarity. With previous singles “Into Hell” and the crushing title track, this era marks a darker and more intense chapter for the band.
