Grace’s brother had always believed that a Guardian Angel protected Grace. Was she? After her brother’s suspicious death, Grace must uncover the secret of a relic and her own forgotten past.

Consecration
Consecration was written by Christopher Smith and Laurie Cook and is directed by Christopher Smith. The film stars Jena Malone, Danny Huston, Thoren Ferguson, Steffan Cennydd, and Janet Suzman. If you’re into dark religious themes, you are going to love this film.
Consecration begins with an attempted murder, and then we are drawn into an Agatha Christie-type of horror mystery. Grace (Jena Malone), who is a caring ophthalmologist, receives a message that her brother Michael (Steffan Cennydd), a Roman Catholic priest, has died. She travels to a remote convent in Scotland only to learn from DCI Officer Harris (Thoren Ferguson) that, according to Mother Superior (Janet Suzman) and the other nuns, Michael is accused of murdering another priest before jumping to his death on the rocks below.
The scene is set for the “who and why” and the film wastes no time in keeping us hooked as Grace tries to find out the real reason why Michael was at that convent. She is very skeptical of Mother Superior’s recollection of the murder/suicide. Something isn’t adding up…especially when the Vatican sends a priest, Father Romero (Danny Huston) to the convent to quiet things down. What are they hiding, and what does it have to do with ancient Knights who supposedly brought back a mysterious relic?

After her visit to the morgue, Grace begins to experience troubling dreams and hallucinations about her childhood and the death of her adopted mother. Mother Superior’s treatment of Grace raises all kinds of red flags about the hypocrisy of religious institutions and their understanding of good versus evil. Michael’s diary holds the clue, but it is written in code.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed Consecration for its original take on another of my favourite films, The Da Vinci Code. Did Grace have a special Guardian Angel protecting her? What did the Knights find all those many years ago? What is Mother Superior hiding under the ancient convent?
Consecration is now available on Digital Platforms, UK Digital platforms, and also on Apple TV on June 16th
