Don’t Hide PR’s Melissa Meszaros to Release Her Second Memoir, ‘Song Over The Bones’

BREAKING NEWS!

We’re fortunate enough to have a first look at Melissa Meszaros’s forthcoming memoir, Song Over The Bones, which is due out October 2 from Oil On Water Press. The highly anticipated follow-up to Heavy Metal Headbang is available for preorder RIGHT NOW.

Melissa is a familiar name around the BBP! offices as a PR wizard. Pretty much every good indie comic I’ve had the pleasure of reading during my tenure here has come across my desk, thanks to her. So, you can take me at my word when I tell you that her name is synonymous with quality and, to the surprise of absolutely no one, she’s a killer writer in her own right. Her previous memoir, Heavy Metal Headbang, dealt with the aftermath of an accident she sustained on her way to a Judas Priest concert and is a must-read.

From the press release: Born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, Melissa Meszaros has set the precedent for breaking tropes and forging the way for the modern nomadic. As a tenured entertainment industry publicist, Melissa is also the founder of Grrrl Front PDX Music Fesval and the comic book publicity firm, Don’t Hide PR. She is a self-proclaimed grunge aficionado, graduate of Anoch University Los Angeles’ MFA in Creative Wring, and proudly shares a birthday with Melvins leader, Buzz Osborne.

Love Burns— When a wildfire destroys her home and her ‘soulmate’ disappears without a trace, Melissa is left to navigate the emotional and physical wreckage. Alone and adrift, she turns to her lifelong passion for music and hits the road in search of solace. Traveling from coast to coast, Melissa stops at influential landmarks and gravesites, leaving and collecting tokens in honor of iconic figures like Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and more.

This bold and unconventional healing journey challenges fairytales and the traditions of love and marriage. It dismantles Hollywood tropes and honors the raw, rebellious spirit of rock’n’roll that it takes to rebuild from nothing.

A follow-up to the author’s Heavy Metal Headbang, Song Over the Bones breaks down the fairytales of love and healing, leaving space for something raw and real. It’s not a traditional redemption story but a tribute to the fight, to the scars that don’t fade, and to the fierce resilience of those who build home from the pieces life leaves behind.

I’ve had an advanced look at the book and it’s really something to behold…but you don’t have to take my word for it!

“Melissa Meszaros reflects the grunge era’s sense of tragic irony with honest hilarity, while she paints a vivid landscape from the loud awe and angst expressed by her love of rock and roll. This is a timely and defining narrative, much needed to begin to unravel the confusion in which we find ourselves today.” —Steve Moriarty, drummer & author of Mia Zapata & The Gits

Personally, I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy of Song Over The Bones, and, as I wrote above, it’s available for preorder right now, ask your local bookshop to order a whole case of them. That’s the cool thing to do. Just order the damn book already.
