The Game Awards just happened the other night and – as per usual – there were many games announced. This year in particular had a tremendous amount of new games shown, as well as deeper looks into games that have already been released/announced. Here are 12 of the craziest announcements we got this year.
Borderlands 4

2024 was certainly a year for the Borderlands franchise. Whether or not we were kind to it or it was unkind to us is still up in the air. The Borderlands movie didn’t do so hot, but Gearbox wants you to forget about that with its flashy new trailer for the upcoming next installment in the series. Borderlands 4 looks as insane as ever, and it boasts new playable characters, and a time-bending new villain.
Clive Rosfield will be playable in Tekken 8

Final Fantasy XVI protagonist Clive Rosfield will be the final playable character in Tekken 8‘s Season 1 pass. He will be available way sooner than anyone could have possibly foreseen. Clive will be ready to download on December 16.
Elden Ring: Nightrein

Remember when FromSoft said that they had no interest in making anymore games in the Elden Ring universe? Well they threw that in our face and announced a multiplayer roguelike experience set in there. Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to release sometime in 2025.
New game from Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda

Ueda is a creator who continues to evolve on his vision. He created Ico, Shadow of the Colossus (my personal favourite), and The Last Guardian. He has announced that his next adventure will have you seemingly command a large robot. The game is currently untitled and we have no clue when it will be out.
Split Fiction
Split Fiction is the latest co-op adventure from madman/genius developer Josef Fares and his Hazelight Studios team. You play as Mio and Zoe, two fiction writers who get stuck in a simulation of their own writing. One writes sci-fi and one writes fantasy. The worlds differ dramatically and provide many different gameplay experiences between them. It Takes Two is a previous Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards, so expectations for this title are high. Split Fiction arrives March 6.
Virtua Fighter and Project Century

The ridiculously talented teams over at SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (Yakuza, Like a Dragon) are teaming up to bring us a brand new Virtua Fighter. As if this news wasn’t already extremely exciting, they also announce a brand new single player open-world experience with Project Century, a game that takes place in Japan way back in the year of 1915.
Turok: Origins

This is the year of dormant franchises getting new games. Who had a new Turok game on their bingo cards? Dinosaur killing is back and better than ever. Saber Interactive and Universal are teaming up to reboot the franchise into a third person shooter.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Anybody who has played a previous Sonic racing games knows that the series is extremely underrated. I’m not talking about Sonic R or Sonic Riders. I am talking about Sonic Racing! Good old fashioned kart racing with all your favourite hedgehogs, echidnas, foxes, etc. What could “CrossWorlds” possibly be alluding to? Are we getting characters from different franchises? Are we getting different versions of the beloved Sonic characters? We will need to wait and see!
Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom came out swinging and revealed a new trailer for the next game in their long dormant Onimusha series. It looks like we’ll be fighting some yokai and enjoying some samurai goodness when the game launches in 2026.
Okami 2

Geoff got choked up while he was introducing the trailer to this one, and it’s easy to see why. Okami is a classic that has managed to remain one of the most visually stunning games ever made, regardless of generation. Amaterasu is back, and hopefully we’ll be able to be reunited with Susano, Issun, and Mr. Orange. The fact that a sequel is being developed by the legendary Hideki Kamiya means that we are guaranteed an unforgettable experience.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Naughty Dog has finally unveiled Intergalactic – the newest IP from the team. The teaser shows a look at our protagonist conversing with a bounty handler. Kumail Nanjiani can be seen in the a few of the newspaper photos and as the bounty target, Colin Graves. We will learn more about this exciting new game whenever Naughty Dog wants to tell us!
