Figure Friday: Figures, He Wrote as Josh Wallen Rounds Up Some Early July News

July has arrived, and with it a bevy of figure announcements. The second half is kicking off with a Cosmic Legions sale, a renowned mystery writer and LEGO Richard Dreyfuss. What a time to be alive!

NECA Murder, She Wrote Jessica Fletcher

Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons. For the entirety of my grade school and high school career, Angela Lansbury owned Sunday nights. She was an institution. Now that institution is being brought to life in figure form.

From NECA:

We don’t want to alarm you, but something very sinister is going on! Thankfully, if anything’s afoot in Cabot Cove, you can always count on Jessica Fletcher to get to the bottom of it.

The iconic mystery writer/amateur detective from Murder, She Wrote is now a NECA action figure ready to solve crimes with you!

This fully articulated 8-inch figure is dressed in tailored soft goods clothing similar to the iconic toy lines of the 1970s. She comes with interchangeable expressions, interchangeable sweater, jacket, scarf, handbag, flashlight, typewriter, and her book The Corpse Danced at Midnight!

There was a time when Angela Lansbury was quite the head-turner. This era of Dame Angela was more of a page turner. Nonetheless, NECA has packed in an interchangeable sweater, forcing You, Dear Reader to ask yourself the question: What’s Mrs Potts hiding underneath that sweater?

LEGO Ideas: Jaws

Build the ultimate fan-inspired display set that recreates the thrilling scene in the movie Jaws where Quint, Chief Brody and Hooper faced down the shark from the deck of the Orca.

Jaws had a profound impact on my life. To this day, I can’t exit a swimming pool without the notes of John Williams score ringing in the back of my mind. My pace quickens. My heart races. For a fraction of a second, I’m convinced the impossible is about to happen and Bruce the Shark is going to snatch me back into the deep-end in a violent bloody explosion.

LEGO Ideas has captured Chief Brody, Hooper and Quint in mini-figure form and tossed them aboard the fateful Orca to battle that bloody shark. The only thing missing is a sound fx feature that plays “Spanish Ladies.” You can order your own Orca on August 6.

Cosmic Legions Summer of Cosmerrium

Four Horsemen Studios announced their Summer of Cosmerrium event this week. Now through August you can score 20% off in-stock Cosmic Legions at participating retail partners.

Cosmic Legions has really grown on me since the line launched three years ago. While I don’t delve into the story all that much, I find the character design to be fantastic. I’m slowly starting to build out my own Guardians of Cosmerrium team with all sorts of interesting aliens and creatures.

My two most recent additions are Highwarden Slogg and Altarr Cyllovius. Slogg is a giant tub of green goo confined to an intricate domed space suit. Altarr is your traditional “gray” alien with a painted head and some dreamy soft goods robes. One is big and bulky, the other is lean and lanky. They’re like the Chris Farley and David Spade of Cosmerrium. It makes me want to see these two behind the wheel of a spaceship singing The Carpenter’s greatest hits.
