15 years old. It’s hard to imagine that it’s been that long since we turned the lights on here at Biff Bam Pop!, and even harder still to fathom that we’re still going strong a decade and a half later.
The idea when this site first launched was for a group of friends to have a place to share their thoughts on pop culture, usually as it related to comic books and movies. Today, it’s me and JP Fallavollita that remain from that original group, and somehow I was left holding the keys to the kingdom, as it were. Not by plan or design, mind you. Probably more based on my stubbornness and maybe, just maybe, the thought that what this site had and has to offer is of value to both its readers and its writers.
So many writers have been kind enough to lend their talents to Biff Bam Pop! over the years, too many to name. It would much easier to give shout outs to those who came through and were shown the door, but why would I do that other than to momentarily ease the seemingly neverending gnawing in my mind of how these particular folks aggravated the hell out of me. But that’s what I have a therapist for, right?
It is well-worth giving kudos and credit to the current batch of excessively talented souls who contribute their words to us and you on the regular, like Wade Stokan, Gabriel Marcoccia, and longtime video game writer, Mat Langford.
There’s E.A. Henson and Josh Wallen, our Figure Friday dynamic duo who constantly keep us posted on what toys I shouldn’t be buying. Uncle Highlander’s Read This Book covers comics off the beaten path with passion and conviction. And there’s Jeromme Graham, who I used to harass to write for us and when he finally agreed, made What’s Going On an essential music column.
Marie Gilbert, our Steampunk Granny, has been a longtime writer and cheerleader for Biff Bam Pop! and all of our writers. Marie is a hero, a badass, and an inspiration, and I love her dearly.
Sachin Hingoo does a regular horror column which is a must-read for fans of the genre; he also writes film reviews the way I wish I could. Nobody on this site frustrates me more, but that’s only because our views on wrestling are so divergent and I rarely win an argument with him; I may do a little happy dance on the rare occasion it happens.
Like me, JP Fallavollita has been here since the beginning, and as a friend of nearly 25 years knows me better than most. His love of comics is unparalleled, and his Wednesday Run column has been an incredible fixture at Biff Bam Pop! for nearly as long as we’ve been around. Working with your friends can often be a dicey prospect, but JP and I have made it work for a long, long time now.
Jeffery X Martin is the glue that holds Biff Bam Pop! together, and has been for years now. Daily I’ll shoot X an email or a message with something like “do you think you could do this?” or “what’s your timing like today?” X loves this site so much, and his belief in it and devotion to it is remarkable, always appreciated, and perhaps only second to one.
The one, of course, is the late, great Glenn Walker, who treated this site as his own for all the years he worked on it. Glenn passed away in December 2017, but his presence at Biff Bam Pop! looms large. Glenn was one of my best friends and I feel his absence in my life and at BBP! almost daily. What we do here stands on the shoulders of this particular giant.
Again, this site wouldn’t be what it is today without all these amazing voices. I can’t thank them enough for their contributions and belief in themselves, their writing, and Biff Bam Pop!
And, of course, thank you for reading, whether you’re new to Biff Bam Pop!, have been with us from the beginning, or jumped on along the way. We appreciate your eyeballs.
Here’s to another 15 years of Biff Bam Pop!
