Director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, A Field in England) is known for his arthouse horror movies that blur the edges of fantasy and reality. Why not give him a decent budget so he can make a full-blown, balls-out, gonzo, loonball movie about prehistoric sea monsters terrorizing Jason Statham and unsuspecting vacationers in a tropical location? Meg 2: The Trench is the sequel to the 2018 hit which only featured one ravenous megalodon. Now there are three megs and something with tentacles strong enough to take down a helicopter. Does it make sense? Nope. Does that matter? Nary a bit. If the trailer is accurate, Meg 2: The Trench is going to kick all of the ass.
Meg 2: The Trench is slated for release by Warner Bros. on August 4, 2023.
