Biff Bam Pop!’s Holiday Gift Guide 2021: Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Editor’s Note: My old friend the Movie Minx is one of the biggest Star Wars fans I know, so when a certain book showed up for review, I knew she’s be perfect for it. Read on!

My kids (7 and 9 years old) and I are HUGE Star Wars fans. My 9 year-old can now identify which Jedi belongs to a particular lightsaber just by looking at the hilt. We have an impressive collection of Star Wars books, mostly reference ones full of facts and glossaries so when we have a question such as “what species of alien is that?” we can look it up in the Star Wars Alien Archive book.

For super fans like us, Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away is a really neat way to learn how to celebrate the Star Wars festive time of year. It’s a story book and a cookbook all in one. “Written” by in-universe character Chef Strono Tuggs aka Cookie, the books is diary of his travels around the galaxy collecting various recipes from the planets he visits and features recipes like Pickled Mynock, Bantha Surprise, Kashyyyk Cake, and Mudhorn Eggnog.

Whether you’re queuing up a bootleg copy of the original Star Wars Holiday Special, or cozying up to rewatch the movies, having a cup of Bantha Milk Hot Chocolate  or Sarjenn Snowcap with a side of Wookiee-Ookiees or Bolus Nut appetizers would take that moment of fandom to the next level. I can imagine hosting a Life Day party someday and having copies of these recipes accompanying the fare to titillate my guests by staying on theme.

“I really like reading this book, and all the pictures are really cool. It’s a good book,” says my 9 year-old.

My only complaint about the book would be that there isn’t a photo to accompany each and every recipe. I’m a pretty basic muddler in the kitchen, despite my husband’s best efforts to improve my cooking skills, and I rely on really clear instructions and photos when I attempt to cook anything new so I’m afraid that using Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away would not be ideal for me as an actual guide for attempting many of the dishes enclosed. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed thumbing through the pages from a pure entertainment perspective.

If anyone on your gift list is a mega Star Wars fan AND a foodie, Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away could be a real winner for them. Now excuse me while I go finish rewatching The Mandolorian in preparation for The Book of Boba Fett’s release in just a couple of weeks.
