The loss of the Rolling Stones’ drummer Charlie Watts today at the age of 80 is a big one for me. I’ve loved the Stones for most of my life, starting when I first saw the video for “Undercover (of the Night)” on the CHUM 30 way back during the early 1980s. I saw the band multiple times starting in 1997 on the Bridges To Babylon tour, including a club gig in at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre in 2005. To me, and to many, there’s no Rolling Stones without Charlie. He was legendary.
On that note, here are a few of my fave Stones songs to feature their illustrious drummer:
Monkey Man – from Let It Bleed
Midnight Rambler – from Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out
Undercover (of the Night) – from Undercover
Mixed Emotions – from Steel Wheels
Out Of Control – from Bridges to Babylon
