Biff Bam Pop is saddened to learn of the death of former WWE star and actor, Shad Gaspard.
If you weren’t watching WWE from 2006 until around 2010, you probably missed out on Shad’s run, alongside his partner JTG in the Cryme Tyme unit. They got occasional pushes in the tag division and, briefly, in a stable with John Cena, but nothing sustained prior to their release towards the end of 2009.
More than his wrestling career, though, Shad was known for his breadth of interests, including comic books (he authored Assassin and Son: Path of Vengeance with another former wrestler, Marc “Muhummad Hassan” Copani, which should see release this year), acting (he had small roles in Get Hard, The Last Sharknado, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, as well as a starring role in the stage play, Pugilist), and video games (Shad did motion capture for both 2018’s God of War and Batman: The Enemy Within).
But more than all this, Shad was nothing short of a hero. His last act on earth was to save a number of people, including his 10-year-old son Aryeh, from an aggressive rip current on Venice Beach. Unfortunately, first responders were unable to reach Shad when he was pulled under, and his body was found later. He was 39 years old.
Goodbye, my friend.
My thoughts are with Shad’s family. I can’t fathom their loss.— Florida Man (@WWEBigE) May 20, 2020
