There’s a brand new Pokémon game out for the Nintendo Switch, and our expert the Princess has some serious opinions about Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX!
Andy Burns: Ok, kid. You know me, I get lost when it comes to Pokémon. There are just so many games! What is this new game all about?
The Princess: Basically you’re a Pokémon, but you’re actually a human trapped in a Pokémon!
Andy Burns: Hmm, that sounds weird.
The Princess: It’s weird, but it’s also pretty awesome. You’re a human and you wake up in a pokemon’s body. You get to choose what Pokémon you start off as, And then you meet another Pokemon of your choice.
Andy Burns: You mean like a friend?
The Princess: Yeah. You and your friend start a rescue team, rescuing Pokémon who are in trouble.
Andy Burns: What sort of trouble are they in exactly?
The Princess: Like falling through holes and getting lost in dungeons.
Andy Burns: That sounds painful. What do you do to help them?
The Princess: You adventure through the dungeons and you can meet enemy Pokemon and you battle them by pushing the A button. You can find objects that you can walk into and collect and put into your Adventurer’s Tool Box. When you defeat an enemy Pokemon you get experience points so you can eventually level up.
Andy Burns: How is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX different from the other Pokémon games you’ve played?
The Princess: You get to play as the Pokémon! In the other games, you play as the trainer! The graphics are different – they look more like comic books than an animated tv show.
Andy Burns: I noticed how different it looked from Sword and Shield. Do you have to know a lot about Pokémon to get into this game?
The Princess: Not really. All you need to know is read the controls well and you’ll get how to play the game.
Andy Burns: What’s your favourite part of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX?
The Princess: I love being a Mudkip – that’s a Pokémon, in case you don’t know!
Andy Burns: I didn’t know! What kind of Pokemon is a Mudkip?
The Princess: A Mudkip is sort of an amphibian type thing. It was based on an Axolotl.
Andy Burns: And I know you love Axolotls! Finally, you’ve played lots of Pokemon games on the Switch. Where would you rank Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX and why?
The Princess: I’d say it’s number two out of all the Pokémon games, my second favourite after Pokémon Shield because you can play as the Pokémon and you can choose which Pokémon you play as.
