Usually every Friday at this time Biff Bam Pop! presents the newest episode of The GAR! Podcast, the Glenn Walker and Ray Cornwall weekly podcast where they talk unrehearsed about whatever happens to come to mind, an audio-zine for your mind, a nerd exploration of a nerd world. This week however, GAR! is on a short hiatus due to some technical difficulties. In its place we’re featuring another member of the GAR! family, The Make Mine Magic Podcast, with an episode focusing on one of Disney’s most overlooked animated musical films, and one that the Podcast itself takes its name from in a way – Make Mine Music. See and hear more after the jump.

The Make Mine Magic Podcast features Jenn and Glenn Walker talking about Disney, parks, movies, travel advice, characters, Marvel, Star Wars, Studio Ghibli, etc., if it’s Disney, it’s fair game. In our special 75th episode of The Make Mine Magic Podcast, we’re talking about Make Mine Music, one of a series of musical anthologies that Walt Disney released during and after World War II, right here.

While only the masterpiece that is Fantasia survives to current memory, Walt Disney made several musical animated anthologies during the 1940s, and Make Mine Music is only but one of them. Because of the structure of these films, it was easy for the company to dismantle them and use them as short features both before future films and on television. Some of us may remember classics like “Peter and the Wolf” or “Casey at the Bat,” but this is their original format. And even this is not complete, as some video and digital releases omit certain features for politically correct reasons.

The Bride and I take a look at this classic, lost to the ages by some, and reflect on each song/feature, the one that’s no longer part of it, old time radio, and even censorship in this special 75th episode of the podcast. With the music and voices of Benny Goodman, the Andrews Sisters, Nelson Eddy, Dinah Shore, and more, this is a Disney classic well worth tracking down for your own collection. And if you want hear more of my thoughts, and my lovely wife’s, please check out the special Make Mine Music episode of The Make Mine Magic Podcast.
