Mat Langford’s Gaming World – NFL Kicker delivers!

I’ve been playing a lot of NFL Kicker for the iOS lately, and for such a simple game, it’s really kept my attention.

For one thing, it’s a quick, pick-up and play type of game, good for the subway ride home or waiting for a bus. Its presentation is also impressive. The game’s graphics are pretty standard for the iPhone, but everything runs smoothly, and makes it quite enjoyable. Load times are quick and the game moves right along.

The menus are simple and streamlined.

In NFL Kicker, you kick and play through the levels earning points that level your character through ranks. The major replay value of the game comes from trying to beat your personal best scores in each level.  Again, the key is presentation. When you kick a particularly awesome field goal or coffin corner, you’re rewarded with fireworks and the crowd cheering. The menus are smooth and simple, the audio is good as well, and from what I can tell, each team’s home stadium is represented in detail.

There are a few different levels in this game which all revolve around you kicking a football at or through uprights, or just out of bounds before the endzone. The cool thing about this is that not only can you select to kick for all of your favourite NFL teams, but you can customize your kickers jersey with your own name. The small personal touch is welcome here and makes the game that much more endearing.

The controls are simply and intuitive, and they are quite responsive and smooth. This game is easy to play out of the gate and would appeal to casual gamers as well as someone looking for a good challenge.

All in all it’s a fun game, presented well, that kills some time. If you’re looking for a game-on-the-go – and you’re an NFL fan (though you don’t need to be by any means) –  then this may be the one for you!
